"MONEY TRAP! This is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in my life. The reviews are not believable. I felt I’d been tricked.
It is subpar on every single level except its location (which is good, but NOT the best end of the canal.) This hotel is on the end closer to the industrial and commercial area.
The decor is absolutely hideous and looks like a cheap motel in Las Vegas:
•Screaming ORANGE and GOLD wall paper
•PLASTIC decor
•Vinyl counter with snake skin pattern and weird contact/wall paper in a fake black marble pattern. FAKE EVERYTHING! Like a an amusement park horror house.
•Cheap vinyl floor- not even the high quality vinyl planks that look like wood.
•PLASTIC drop- down ceilings (like a gas station bathroom!) Unbelievable!
•Office furniture for “furniture.” Has all the charm of an office supply outpost.
•Vacuum permanently resides in hallway.
•Black, orange and red stripe rug is HIDEOUS and so FILTHY that it is matted flat and hard with filth in many places. Hard to capture in photos, which is probably why they chose those colors.
Wall paper is bleached or scrubbed to discoloration all over the place. Gross.
This is not “eclectic.” It’s a cheap, haphazard, free for all. Whatever was on sale, thrown together.
Weird polyester strings for curtains that look like a 1960’s hippy incense store. Not washable so, gross!
The wallpaper is sooooo cheap. Bargain-basement. Not “modern.” Just cheap. My previous hotel (half as expensive) had the most luxurious, layered wallpaper with complex scenes.
The canal “view” is on the side of the bed so you have to sit on a bench facing it. The top window of the niche has paint, glue, goo and dirt all over the glass, which speaks to utterly abysmal standards used when this place was “decorated.” Like the painters left without even cleaning up. Absolutely disrespectful of customers.
Bathroom is as small as a train bathroom. Your knees will touch the door frame, or leave the door open. Shower door opens one way and is very tight. A big person could not manage. Of course, toilet paper is the cheap stuff you get on trains.
No bottled water offered, or even a carafe. The clerk told us to “get water from the bathroom tap.” He said this with no clue as to how tacky and gross it is. JUST TACKY. And GROSS. Are the owners so uncivilized that they don’t understand all the reasons that is unhygienic? I don’t think so. I think they’re cheap and think they can get away with anything.
The room is COLD, even with max heating. The only heater is a small radiator (with no fan or circulation capacity) which sits right next to the giant window, which sucks all the heat out. Useless.
Abysmal staff. “Reception” clerks act like counter clerks at an auto parts store. ZERO hospitality training. ZERO professional presence. They don’t look up- much less GET UP - from their computer. They respond with no polite exchanges. They don’t stand, don’t use pleasantries, don’t address customers with deference or salutations. Burger King has more hospitality training. They don’t take you to the room or explain anything in there (like operating the heater.) I assume they must be owners’ unemployed nephews.
The least solicitous staff I’ve ever encountered. Didn’t ask about our stay until checkout. They acted like a couple of “Bros” just hanging out and “willing” to answer your questions- if you interrupt them.
Breakfast is a joke. You have to order exactly what you want to eat the night before. And didn’t even have Decaf coffee. And then the food is cooked by the desk clerk! How gross is that?!! I would not eat there. I decided within minutes of check-in that there was absolutely no way I was eating in this place. My partner ate there first morning but not the second. Went without breakfast at all the second day rather than eat at that place again.
Any decent hotel has a trained reception staff and a separate trained kitchen staff. Just gross thinking about him covering the desk, vacuuming the hall, and cooking your food— especially since they think a bathroom tap is good enough for guests. What else don’t they understand?
The bed coverlet is a cheap dollar-store polyester fake velvet drape. Also cheap fake velvet pillows without removable covers, so obviously not cleaned between guests. I hate to think where those gross things have been used. Just disgusting.
Even their tea is a trick: Black Tea English BLEND- code for not pure black tea, which costs pennies more. That’s how cheap this place is- they even use cheap tea bags!!
Shower gel smelled like antiseptic. At this point I had zero faith that they would not do that. Do not trust that.
To add injury to insult, they RENT UMBRELLAS to their guests. Quality hotels provide umbrellas, bicycles- included. I’ve paid half this much for exquisite bedding, coffee and tea room service, magnificent breakfast buffets, down pillows, turn down service, professional service, all amenities included. This place is a money trap.
This place made my skin crawl. I literally left as soon as I could and sat in the airport for five hours rather than that hotel. Due to dance festival, we were unable to book another hotel for the remaining one night. Had to tough it out. Like camping!!"
