"Room Not Honored, Charged Extra for a Sofa Bed, Dirty Conditions, and Disrespectful Service Our stay at Pestana Amsterdam Riverside was extremely disappointing. For a hotel advertised as an upscale property in a beautiful historic building, the accommodations, cleanliness, and customer service were unacceptable. The problems began at check-in. I booked through my employer's travel system, and my reservation specifically confirmed a room with one king bed and one twin bed. Although only my name appeared on the reservation, the requested bed configuration was clearly documented. Rather than handling the situation professionally, the receptionist questioned why only one name appeared and made us feel as though we were attempting to deceive the hotel to avoid additional charges. This was insulting and completely unnecessary. We were then informed that the room we had reserved was unavailable. Instead, we were placed in the hotel's annex rather than the historic building we expected. The room was smaller than advertised and did not have the king-and-twin bed configuration we had booked. The most outrageous part? The hotel charged us an additional €35 PER DAY specifically for the pullout sofa bed. This was NOT an additional guest charge. We had already reserved a room with two actual beds. Because the hotel could not provide that room, we were given a pullout sofa instead—and then charged extra to use it. Essentially, we paid more to receive less. Unfortunately, the condition of the room was equally disappointing: Dirty, stained carpeting: Visible stains and discoloration throughout the carpeting. Filthy shower: Yellow-brown buildup and dark spots around the shower enclosure and tracks, appearing consistent with mildew and accumulated grime. Stained bedding that was never changed: A noticeable brown stain was present on the bedsheet when we arrived. That same stain remained throughout our stay and was still there when we checked out. The sheets were never changed. Construction directly outside our window: Instead of an appealing view, we overlooked construction equipment and activity. Inferior accommodations: A smaller room, cramped bathroom with a single sink, and a pullout sofa bed instead of the twin bed specified in our reservation. The photographs accompanying this review document the actual conditions of our room, including the stained sheets, dirty carpeting, shower, sofa bed, and construction outside our window. What makes this experience particularly upsetting is the combination of the hotel's failure to honor our reservation, the additional charge for substitute bedding, the unacceptable room conditions, and the disrespectful treatment at check-in. A hotel charging upscale prices should be able to provide the room configuration guests reserve, maintain basic cleanliness standards, and treat customers with courtesy and professionalism. My advice to future guests: Get written confirmation of your exact room configuration, whether you will be staying in the historic building or annex, and whether the hotel intends to charge extra for bedding that should already be included in your reservation. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Pestana Amsterdam Riverside."

"Really nice hotel and lovely rooms. Only big problem is the level of noise if you are on the ground floor (below the lobby). From 7am I could hear chairs being scraped along the floor above me, and in the evenings until 10pm I could hear the kitchen staff stacking plates and cutlery very loud. Unfortunately this ruined the experience and made the price not worthwhile. If you stay here, make sure you ask to not be on the ground floor…"
