What Olympic Hotel Amsterdam has to offer
Olympic Stadium
Given that it’s practically on the hotel’s doorstep, it’s definitely worth stopping by the Olympic Stadium – even if just for a photo opportunity. It was the main venue of the 1928 Summer Olympics, and was used for several decades thereafter as a football stadium by the Dutch national team and AFC Ajax. Today, it hosts concerts as well as athletics events. If you’re interested, you can take an interactive tour that brings the stadium’s storied heritage to life by giving you a fascinating look behind the scenes.
Public transport
The nearest tram and bus stops are less than five minutes’ walk down the road, while the nearest metro station, Amstelveenseweg, is less than 10 minutes’ away, making it very quick and easy to get from the hotel into the heart of the city. By public transport, you can get to prime attractions such as the Rijksmuseum in around 20 minutes.
Vondelpark
Attracting around 10 million visitors a year, Vondelpark is undoubtedly the most popular park in Amsterdam – and indeed, in the whole of the Netherlands – with 47 hectares (116 acres) of green space punctuated with ponds, cafes, footpaths, playgrounds and beautifully manicured lawns. Whether for a leisurely stroll, a picnic or simply some quiet contemplation, it’s an idyllic place to hang out, offering a refreshing contrast from the bustle of the city streets. It’ll take you around 15-20 minutes to walk there, or 10 minutes by tram.
