Huygens Place

"I stayed here 3 nights while meeting a group of friends in Amsterdam. Three of us had rooms here. I had upgraded to a slightly larger room and was glad I did - the single rooms were VERY small, but mine, on the 4th floor, was small but comfortable, although the bathroom was very small - you really couldn’t turn around in it! (About 80-90 cm wide, and for part of it, the sink took up half that space!) The double bed was very comfortable, there were available electrical sockets on the nightstands and desk, and a stand for a suitcase as well as space to hang a few clothes, and a comfortable armchair. The bathroom was clean and nice and there was space for me to put my things, but it was a tight squeeze to move in. I had a problem with the air conditioning while at the hotel - apparently the whole building did (the hotel is several buildings; my friends were in the next one and did not have a problem). It kept erroring and turning off. When I called the front desk about it, they were aware of the problem and able to reset it. I requested that they keep checking and resetting it during the night, as otherwise I woke up too hot, and they were able to successfully do this the two nights until it was fixed for my last night. I appreciated the way they handled it; that each front desk staffperson made the next person aware of it so there weren’t gaps (one, but quickly resolved)."

"Although the staff was welcoming, I cut my stay short at this hotel. The value for money is very poor and in my opinion it is not worth the 4 stars. I stayed in a room with a view of a courtyard that deserves to be maintained. The bottom of the walls in the room are stained by humidity and there was a smell of mold in the room. The bed was not very comfortable. The rooms are poorly soundproofed and I was woken up by people returning from a night out several times. I do not recommend this hotel."

"We took a five day / four night trip to Amsterdam . This is a brilliant location to be based in . Not central city but on the edge of the museum quater and five minutes walk to Vondlepark . It represented good value for money , the food was good breakfast . All the receptionists were pleasant and helful . The rooms were standard but fine . Bed comfortable but horrible cushion like pillows . Would recomend a stay here . A good base ."
