Hotel Van Gogh

"I stayed in this hotel two nights and chose it given its location in the Museum Quarter and close to the Concertgebouw, where I had bought a ticket for a concert. The area is very safe, I had no problem to return by foot from the concert at around 11 pm. The room had a good size and was spotless clean. Very important: it had a view to the backside, being very quiet. Staff was very kind and ready to help."

"I paid $450 for one night in this hotel so i was expecting luxury. Instead, this was a basic hotel which should have been priced as budget lodging. They billed my credit card in full when I booked, which I didn’t know was going to happen. And when I arrived, they said breakfast was not included and I needed to pay €20 additional !!!! The entrance is super ghetto and doesn’t have any type of ramp to wheel your suitcase. When I arrived there was a huge crowd trying to get into the breakfast area and one man complaining to the front desk how noisy his room was. Not at all a luxury lobby. My room was just around the corner from check in. It was on the first level so I was directly at street level. I’ve not stayed in a hotel on the ground floor in a large city before. The front window glass was frosted so you couldn’t look out onto the street but thankfully people couldn’t walk by and look right into your room. The man complaining about the noise was legit. There is a children’s school across the street and kids are playing very noisy outside from early morning until dusk. My room had no amenities. The bathroom door could not open all the way because it hit the bed. There was a safe, but I was hesitant to use it because of one of the other reviews saying her money was stolen. The air-conditioning in my room did not work to cool the room adequately. I turned it to 15°C and the fan all the way on high and I was still hot. One of the outlets to charge your phone was directly behind where your pillow would be so it was not usable. There was no separate tea pot only a coffee maker, but it did make hot water. There were two teabags in my room. No make up mirror, but there was a basic hairdryer. Room decor was basic, and there was water stains on some of the ceiling tile tiles. I’ve never been more disappointed in price paid versus room provided. I really don’t know how this place got five star Google reviews. I couldn’t wait to check out and had I not prepaid. I would’ve used an app to find a different room immediately when I saw where I would be staying. Maybe that’s why they charge you ahead of time."
