Stylish riverside stay in Amsterdam
Modern, stylish, and pitched up right on the waterfront, Hotel Pontsteiger ticks a lot of boxes. Housed in a stylish and architecturally striking building – as many are in this part of town – it’s just a minutes’ walk from the Pontsteiger ferry terminal. For getting across the city on dry land, meanwhile, the nearby bus stop – about four minutes’ walk – will connect you to the rest of Amsterdam’s stellar public transport network. There’s a tram stop about 15 minutes’ walk away, too.
In this part of the city, just 15 minutes’ stroll from the hotel, you’ll find Westerpark – one of the largest green spaces in the city. With a cultural centre, a 17th century windmill, and a couple of restaurants within its boundary – as well as plenty of great spots to just plonk yourself and watch the world go by – it’s a great place to while away an afternoon.
Heading for Dam Square? Hop on a bus to Amsterdam Centraal Station and you can get there in about 20 minutes – or you could walk it in about 40 if you fancy stretching your legs. If two wheels and a saddle is more your vibe, you’re in luck. Not only is Amsterdam a famously bike-friendly city, the hotel offers bike rental from reception.
Back at the hotel you’ll find it’s decked out in a minimal, Scandinavian style. Think warm, neutral tones and big windows – plenty of which overlook the river. Next door you’ll find Café Pontsteiger, which is a great spot to grab breakfast, lunch, or a coffee to accompany your stroll around the city. There’s no shortage of great bars and restaurants in the vicinity either, so you’ll have plenty of options when it comes to eats – maybe even too many.
