Campanile Amsterdam

"The reception staff deserve special praise. We were travelling with our dog and had been told we would have a ground-floor room. Unfortunately, the first room we were given was near the laundry area, smelled unpleasant and was in poor condition. The blinds could not be opened, so we could not properly air the room. We reported this to reception and they immediately moved us to another room, which was much better. However, the second room was very small and felt more like a motel room than a hotel room. It was acceptable for our two-night stay, but it would have been less comfortable for a longer visit. The breakfast was tasty and offered a good variety of options. We also really liked the location — the hotel is in a quiet area next to a large park, which was ideal for our dog, and very close to a metro station with easy access to Amsterdam city centre. Overall, we appreciated how quickly and professionally the staff resolved the problem with our room, and we had a pleasant stay."

"2nd time we stay here for Reggae Lake. Delicious! Great room, great coffee at the bar good breakfast and super friendly staff. I work in a hotel myself and watch everything. No downsides here! You book a simple hotel so you expect a simple hotel and then you are pleasantly surprised. If you are looking for luxury and comfort, you have to book it and pay for it. We will definitely come here again next year! Thanks for the hospitality!!"

"Positive: The staff at check-in was very friendly, and the arrival went smoothly. Unfortunately, that is the only thing that remained as a positive memory. Negative: Odor in the room: Upon entering the room, we were immediately hit by an extreme, stale smoke smell – as if someone had been smoking there for months and it had never been aired out. Since the hotel was fully booked, a room change was not possible. As a "solution," they simply handed us room spray and perfume at the reception, which masked the stench for a maximum of 30 minutes. Uncomfortable ventilation situation: Since we were accommodated on the ground floor and the rooms face directly onto the parking lot, there were only blinds that could be either all the way up or all the way down. To be able to sleep with the window open, the blinds had to remain completely pulled up – thus, anyone parking could look directly into the room, and it was extremely bright in the summer. Deficient cleanliness & hygiene: Walls: Crusted splashes and streaks could be seen on many walls. Bed: The bed sheet had stains from the beginning, and there was also visible dirt/stains on the headboard. Floor: Behind the bed in the corners, it simply hadn't been vacuumed in ages. Bathroom: The ventilation barely worked, which is why damp mold droplets had already formed on the ceiling. The glass pane of the shower stall was full of old limescale and water stains and seemed not to have been thoroughly cleaned for a very long time. Conclusion: They were basically the worst three hotel nights we have ever experienced. The fact that the hotel shows no insight or makes any concessions to us afterward makes it all the more disappointing. It may be that we were simply unlucky with this specific room, but this stay was definitely not clean and hygienic. Not recommended!"
