"Having stayed here previously, we were familiar with the fantastic location of this property. While the lobby is small and almost always crowded, the staff does a good job of moving things along in a quick, efficient manner. Though not huge in size, (this is Europe after all) the M Club is the star of this property, led by the ebullient Charles. Charles makes each and every guest feel at home, and being around his positive energy each day relieves some of the stress that travel involves. A million thanks, Charles! The M Club had been remodeled since our previous stay, but now much of the furniture seems impractical in the worst way, and, somehow, it feels like there is less seating than before. The redesign definitely focused more on form than function, which is not what this location needs! A number of the M Club lamps are so low that they create a safety hazard. In the future, it may be a good idea to have guest input when remodeling this M Club, because the designers seem to have failed to make the room function at its full potential. Also, know that this M Club is incredibly busy, so you will need to either be very patient, or arrive early for breakfast and evening snacks.
It is worth noting that if you have nightly upgrade awards requested, Marriott is in control of those, not the hotel itself, which can be terribly frustrating for both guests and hotel management alike. Even if the property shows upgraded rooms for your dates of stay, chances are you will not get them (at least in our case). During our stay we had a small issue, and manager Peter was extremely helpful in assisting us.
Overall, the hotel is clean, quiet, centrally located to many sites and public transportation options. The M Club is well stocked (though they did ran out of diet sodas on more than one occasion) and impeccably maintained (despite the poor furniture choices and placement). The Amsterdam Marriott will always be our first choice when staying in Amsterdam and we look forward to returning."
