In a league of its own

Picture this: a sun-drenched terrace, an ice-cold cocktail, and you. The scent of orange blossom drifts by on the breeze and the Atlas Mountains tower in the distance. It might sound just like a dream but it’s very much the reality at The Oberoi Marrakech.

Between the Moorish arches, the marble pathways, and the Medersa Ben Youssef-inspired courtyard, this place is just as much an architectural marvel as it is a treat for the senses. When you wander through the citrus groves and past the olive trees – which yes, they do use to produce their very own olive oil – you’d think you’re a world away from the bustling medina of nearby Marrakech.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

Hotel highlights

Wise enough to know it’s better to do less, and do it well, the hotel has just three eateries to choose from, each as impressively moreish as the next. Breakfast buffets (served in the sun-drenched Tamimt dining room or out on the terrace) are anything but beige. Later in the day, Tamimt shifts to a Mediterranean-Moroccan-Indian menu, with produce plucked from the hotel’s own gardens, and gourmet purées for tiny diners.

Poolside Azur is a casual lunch spot, Vue bar doles out signature sips and toast-worthy champagnes in its intimate interiors, but the real star of the show is Rivayat – a love letter to India’s rich culinary traditions. Our recommendation? Spring for an expedition – a six-course journey through refined flavours. You’ve got Rohit Ghai and his Michelin-starred expertise to thank for the menu.

A spa so regal it’s on its own island. This is proper ‘leave the world behind’ stuff. If you fancy treating yourself – and we think you should – why not indulge in the Signature Massage with Kasa Bowls? Taking inspiration from ancient Indian healing rituals and Ayurvedic therapies, this treatment is all about releasing tension, improving circulation, and relieving stiffness. We could all use a bit of that couldn’t we?

There are plenty of other treatments on offer, too, like acupressure, hot stone massages, facials, and indulgent Hammam rituals. Plus, the spa has a yoga studio – where morning group sessions and one-on-one or couples’ sessions are held – indoor pool, sauna, and gym.

The Oberoi is not just your average kick-back-and-relax break. Here they’ve got a four-point plan to soothe your mind, body, and soul that goes far beyond finally making a dent in your ‘to be read’ pile or surrendering yourself to a master massage therapist. This is SAHA – and it’s really rather simple.

Soul & Spirit is all about your inner zen. Think yoga, meditation, reading in the library, stargazing after dark, or spending some quality time with the green-thumbed gardeners. There’s even a sleep therapy programme to help you maximise your Zs. Active Body is exactly what is says on the tin – with a programme of blood-pumping activities to get your heart rate up – while Holistic Treatments cover off everything the dreamy spa has to offer. Finally, A Better Plate means there’s a consultant nutritionist on hand to advise you on all things nourishment.

Leisure is something of an art form here. Mornings might begin with a stretch of yoga as the sun climbs over the Atlas Mountains, a brisk run along landscaped paths scented with orange blossom, or the daily complimentary group sports activity. From long rallies on the tennis court under crisp blue skies and discovering your knack for pickleball to pedalling around the resort in search of secret gardens – or hiking into the ochre-hued hills with a guide who knows every bend – you set the pace, and they’ll handle the rest.

Come evening, the stars arrive early – and are best enjoyed on your private terrace, glass in hand, while a chef grills dinner to order. Very few agendas. Many possibilities.

Far enough to breathe, but close enough to dive into the action at a moment’s notice. The Oberoi Marrakech sits just 25 minutes’ drive from the city’s historic heart, yet feels worlds away. Amidst the orchards and the open skies, it feels like a retreat in every sense, though the bustle of Jemaa el-Fnaa and the intricate tiling of Madrasa Ben Youssef are all easily within reach.

A complimentary shuttle runs you door to door, so you can dip into the souks, sample street food, or simple stroll the medina. It’s the best of both worlds, with none of the usual compromise.

The complimentary shuttle to the centre of Marrakech. Hit the sights, haggle your way through the souks, spy the historical Riads, and don’t worry about how you’re getting back. It’s all taken care of.

The cooking workshops – with top tips straight from the Oberoi kitchen. Prepare your very own Moroccan spread and then feast on the spoils!

The kids’ club. Little ones aged 4-12 can get stuck into cooking classes, art workshops, and treasure hunts through the garden.
