"I last stayed at the Riad Chergui more than 10 years ago and have many happy memories of the time we spent there. I wondered how this holiday would compare, but I needn’t have worried as it was even more magical than I remembered!
Riad Chergui truly is an oasis of calm in the middle of the busy, old town medina. The style of the riad remains traditionally Moroccan, but with fully modern amenities including quiet but powerful air-con. The riad’s main attraction is its central courtyard and outside spaces. There are plenty of places to sunbathe, or to read and relax in shaded spots. The upstairs terrace provides privacy, but also great views across Marrakech - especially at sunset.
Our favourite part of the Riad Chergui is its large pool, which most importantly is very clean and well maintained. We used it often as the summer temperatures were above 40c the week we stayed.
The main difference staying at Riad Chergui compared to other nearby accommodation is the wonderful staff. Emmanuelle and Reduanne’s team are outstanding - nothing was too much trouble for them throughout our stay. All were polite and helpful, and all took great pride in caring for guests. Mina in particular was a standout member of staff, her huge smile and kind nature was greatly appreciated throughout our holiday.
We were particularly impressed with the fresh breakfasts served at our table each morning. There were plenty of options and staff were happy to provide omelettes or scrambled eggs alongside the traditional Moroccan bakery items. On our last morning a lovely petite breakfast was served to us ahead of our very early airport departure.
In contrast to my previous trips we also ate additional meals at Riad Chergui. We were tired from travelling on our first night so we ordered a 3 course meal of Moroccan salads, beef tagine and couscous followed by a lemon dessert. All were delicious and the cost was very reasonable. We also enjoyed snacks by the pool e.g hot sandwiches and fries, as well as ice cream sorbets which allowed us to relax fully after returning from shopping at the nearby souks. This meant we could make the most of our time at the riad before heading out again in the evening.
The only negative to our stay at Riad Chergui was that our week passed by too quickly and we wished we could have stayed for longer!!! - This riad is perfect not just for couples and families, but also for women travellers as it is a very safe and convenient base from which to explore Marrakech.
We look forward to returning to Riad Chergui again very soon!"
