"We enjoyed our flying visit.
Travelled on an easyJet package - 2 night Thursday PM to Saturday PM.
Got a taxi from the airport - pre pay via the machine (UK bank card accepted) outside the arrivals hall (£14).
Upon arrival at the hotel we were given the 'hard sell' trying to persuade us to upgrade to a refurbished room with a balcony. We declined, and still got a nice 5th floor room with a balcony, presumably because that is what they had. You have to pay your tourist tax at check in too.
Room was pretty much as you might expect for the grade of hotel. Aircon worked, but was a bit noisy. Shower was fine (separate room to WC) and mini toiletries were provided upon arrival (but not replenished day 2). TV featured BBC World News as only English channel. WiFi worked okay.
Note the adjacent site is derelict so the immediate outlook isn't 100% attractive, and there is no getting away from the fact that Marrakesh is a busy 24 hour city so there is road noise, and early calls to mosque
Breakfast was fine, but not exactly slick - they were always seemingly 'out' of something, whether forks, glasses, mugs etc. Choices included reasonable self serve machine coffees, pastries, cereals, fruits, and a fresh egg / omelette station.
The pool was lovely. The attendant always found us a lounger. Nice courtyard setting.
The weather for us was good. Dry and mid 20s both days, albeit a bit cloudy our first day. Fab to be sunbathing and swimming outdoors in November!
We walked back and forth to the old town (around 1.5 miles each way) but taxis and buses are also plentiful.
The Medina and souks are full on and busy. You'll see snakes, monkeys and other performers. You can also haggle for deals on fake football shirts and designer polo shirts etc.
We ate out at both 'Nomad' and the non profit Amal kitchen that were both good.
Be aware RAK airport is somewhat hard work, with multiple additional checks and balances compared to most other airports - for example your hand luggage has to be scanned again on arrival, and your passport stamped / reference number written inbound. On the way home you must have a printed boarding card (not APP) and it has to be validated by queuing at check in even if you don't have bags to check in."
