"This was a lovely stay.
The hotel consists of 3 buildings which were built at different times.
1. Venezia building (built 2014)
2. Aqua building (built 2017)
3. Baia building (built 2019)
Venezia is the main building with the reception, the main restaurant Murano, another restaurant, bar and the spa and the indoor pool.
Aqua and Baia are next to the outdoor pool.
All buildings are adjacent one to the other in a straight and long line.
The hotel was kind to upgrade us to a bigger room and also left us some treats in the room. Although the room we booked was supposed to be in the Baia building, the upgraded room was in Venezia building.
At first we were concerned that the room may be less modern and new but when we entered it we loved it immediately. It was in great shape and almost everything looked brand new.
And in hindsight we were pleased that we were in the Venezia building because of all the facilities in it including the breakfast main restaurant. In the summer we may have considered one of the other 2 buildings as they’re nearer to the outdoor pool.
In general I can say that this is a luxury resort where much money has been invested in.
The service of all staff workers was excellent. They all aimed to serve.
There were 2 elevators in the building and they functioned properly and swiftly.
To get to your floor one needs to tap their room key card i.o. (in order) to select your floor button., thus giving a security feeling.
The hotel is right on the marina Porto Montenegro where you will find luxurious yachts parking in.
The road behind where the hotel is on is a pedestrian street with luxurious shops and restaurants. It all looks very new.
Breakfast buffet was good and compact. The spread wasn’t very big but everyone can find what to eat. It had smoked salmon too. The buffet is complemented by a short a la carte menu which includes eggs, porridge, waffles and more. These menu items are delivered to your table.
Breakfast was served until 11:00 daily which for us was a big plus!
Being IHG club members the hotel gave us a complimentary cocktail to choose from at the bar. Kind gesture.
On checkout we gat an extra hour (until 13:00) to stay in the room. We needed a little longer but the reception told us the room is already ordered.
A few points:
No electric socket near the bed head. You’ll need a 2 meter charging cable i.o. (in order) to use while recharging your phone. (No USB socket too). Perhaps in the newer wing rooms they have better sockets.
WiFi connection was alright (average) in the room but there was no reception in the balcony.
In public areas it was usually better.
We didn’t eat dinner in the Murano restaurant, we found it quite expensive (more than €80 per person). Also, it’s not a buffet.
Public transportation in the area is very bad.
There’s no bus from the airport to the hotel and you have to take a taxi from the drivers at the airport who act as a cartel and demand €40 per ride in daytime. (Eventually we bargained it down to €20). On the way back the hotel concierge ordered us a taxi by meter and the cost was just €8. So beware!
Also one day we travelled to Kotor. We were told by the hotel concierge that there are no buses going there. So we took a taxi by meter and the cost was almost €25.
On the way back we found that there is a bus (Blue Line) that took us back to Porto Montenegro for just €2 and we got off at a stop just 700 meters from the hotel. And the big bonus - the route back from Kotor to the hotel was different from the route to Kotor. It was scenic, along the coast of the Tivat peninsula. It took a bit longer but it was really beautiful. We wanted to take it again just for the views but eventually didn’t.
Dining in the area - there are quite a few restaurants within walking distance. We didn’t have much success in this regard. We once ate at One restaurant. The atmosphere was nice, the food - less. But maybe we were just unlucky with the dishes we ordered and they probably deserve a second chance.
Another time we ate at the outdoor restaurant of Hotel Pine. The food was of low quality. Not recommended. Service there was good.
A reasonable place was Navale Kitchen and bar which is on the street behind the hotel and a 4 minute walk to. They have a set menu of a 3 course meal (soup, main dish, dessert) for €16, until 18:00.
So all in all we had a good time at the hotel. We hesitated if the review grade should be 4 or 5 (it was certainly above 4) but seeing the special efforts the staff went through to make our stay more enjoyable we decided that the hotel deserves to be graded 5 points.
We paid about €240/night."
