Columbus Monte Carlo Curio Collection by Hilton

"Our first stay at the Columbus was 18 years ago and we have been back several times. It's been about 5 years since we were there and sadly some of the standards have slipped. Reception staff were lovely and always had a friendly greeting. Our King Suite was beautiful. Spotlessly clean and well equipped. Breakfast wasn't good. To start with, tables weren't being cleared quick enough and customers were having to do it themselves, putting dirty pots on the bar and getting their own cutlery. The 'hot' food had been sitting under heated lamps and was served by a member of staff. We were told that they don't do poached eggs and fried eggs incurred an extra charge! Really?? The dining room wasn't very clean in places and the window at the far end hadn't been cleaned for a very long time. The concierge really let things down though. There rarely seemed to be anyone around and when there was they were usually chatting to another colleague. On our last day we had booked the complimentary shuttle to the train station. We arrived on time to be told by the consierge that the car had 'broken down'. He then walked away. Why on earth we were not told this earlier so we could have made arrangements? A courtesy call to our suite was all it would take. Not a pleasant end to what was an average stay."

"If you are a AMEX Platinum/Centurion Member, never book through AMEX Hotel Collection. The hotel denied the use of Hilton Gold and AMEX Hotel Collection benefits together, despite AMEX provided positive feedback before I book. Despite the front desk understood the situation when you expect to enjoy both benefits at the same time, they just blamed AMEX, helped you to call the service hotline and did nothing to assist the customer. No solutions were ever suggested, extremely poor service. The room is normal, slippers only available upon request. There are 2 bottles of shampoo with no shower gel, you can see how low was their standard. Quiet location."
