"Wherever I stay while I am away or where I eat, I always write a complete and honest review. I always like to make sure people are aware of all of the pros and cons. I am even writing this review on my flight back as I could not wait to share my experience. With this hotel I can honestly say that there were NO cons. This hotel is one of the best hotels I have stayed in across the island. The location is absolutely perfect. You are right on the harbour in Sliema so you can get the boat across to Valletta or take a trip out to sea or around the 2 harbours. The bus stop is right across the road and you can get a bus to almost anywhere. If you don’t manage to get to eat in the hotel restaurants then there are plenty around.
Now enough about the area and location and get onto the hotel itself which is what you are here to read. When you walk through the doors you see how clean the lobby is and it is a very welcoming sight. When you reach the check in desk you are greeted warmly by the hotel staff who are all very polite and easy to talk to. They are very helpful in answering any of your questions. The check in was very smooth and fast. They didn’t make it stressful like some of the places that I have stayed. While checking in you were asked if you would like a welcome drink. While we were checking in, our bags were taken to our rooms.
I had two rooms booked. The rooms are incredibly spacious, clean and have a comfortable bed. The bathroom has a large walk in shower and amenities. There were no issues with the bathroom like you would expect to find when you stay in hotels. We were located on the 8th floor which had fantastic views of the harbour. If possible try to get these rooms. The hotel were informed that it was for a special occasion - a surprise 65th birthday and when we arrived one of the rooms had balloons in it and the towels on the bed were made up to look like a birthday cake. Once we were settled a cake and a bottle of Prosecco were sent up with some fruit - the second room also had a bottle of Prosecco and some fruit sent up as well.
Sundays in the restaurant there is a buffet in the Regatta restaurant. We had lunch the day we arrived. The food was amazing. The choice of food is amazing. A choice of salads and antipasti, seafood, carving station, hot buffet, pastas, cheeses, and a big range of desserts. There is also themed dinner items changed every week, and unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks) all for €38.50 which in m opinion is a very good deal.
For breakfast there was lots to choose from - it was hard trying to decide what to have as everything was so good. There were also omelettes made on request (at no extra cost) or special breakfast items for an extra cost of around 7 Euros.
The restaurant is kept spotless and I mean spotless. Plates cleared straight away and not left. The food area is kept nice and clean. The food temperature is constantly checked and nothing is left out for long. The staff all look very smart and the women’s hair is tied back so there is no loose hair. They are all polite and always saw them with a smile on their face. Sasha is fabulous - very polite and very easy to talk to. Even though he sees lots of guests a day he still managed to remember the room number of both of the rooms when checking your room off for breakfast.
I didn’t manage to try the lobby bar for something to eat in the evening however I did go in and have a couple of drinks and a slice or two of fresh patisserie. The cheesecake and the chocolate cake went down a treat and the prices are very reasonably priced. Two coffees, a beer and 3 slices of cake €42 - you wouldn’t find a place in London that does fresh patisserie for less than that.
The chefs there are also fantastic. I have to give a massive shout out to the executive chef Stephen Gatt. Not only is he incredibly friendly and takes time to speak to the guests he is also a fantastic chef with a great team of staff behind him. You can tell he takes pride with the food that he and the team are sending out. He makes sure all requests are catered for and that everything that comes out of the kitchen is of the upmost quality. He very kindly made a birthday cake for my dad as a very special surprise.
I had five nights here and in all honesty I wish I had booked for longer. I will definitely be coming back to this hotel in the future and will be making this my place to go when I come back to the island. I will be recommending it to everyone I know and I certainly recommend it for anyone that is considering going as you will not be disappointed."
