"We checked into the Hotel Carlton, and our first impressions were very good. The staff were attentive and friendly, the lobby was immaculately clean, and it was nice and cool away from the boiling hot sun outside. Unfortunately, when we reached our room, things went downhill. There was almost no storage space for our clothes, meaning we had to live out of cases for our time there. The bathroom was small, and the shower flooded every time we used it. There was no kettle, no drawers, barely room for my partner to do her makeup, and the air conditioning, while still a salvation in the Venetian heat, wasn't powerful at all. There was also a dusty glass chandelier above the bed that looked like it could have fallen on us at any point during the night but, we've been assured of its stability. Saving the best till last, we had ants staying with us. This was swiftly reported to the hotel who said they would deal with it. When we returned, the ants were still there. Apparently, insecticide was put down, but it takes time to work. We contacted the hotel about this afterwards and were told that policy in these instances is that we should have been offered an alternative room but for some reason weren't. Overall, a disappointing stay, especially at the price point. Get the basics right, like kettles-storage-no insects, and it would be a lovely hotel!"
