Hotel Alpha

"It is hard to know where to start as everything was soooooooooooo good! Met at reception by a friendly and helpful gentleman. We were foolish and in the dark failed to see the button to press for a bellboy to carry our cases up the many steps, don't make the same mistake! Our room was quite lovely, everything we needed for a pleasant week, the balcony was huge and I so loved watching the sunset over Sorrento, all those pinks, apricots and purples! The food was always excellent. Breakfast had so many choices both sweet and savoury, nothing is too much trouble for the staff here. They are well trained, hard working and friendly, the specialty coffees available with breakfast were enjoyed by me, a very fussy coffee drinker! Evening meals always something to look forward to, a great salad buffet just in case you could not choose from the menu.In the seven nights there we were entertained by a Quartet, a saxophonist and a violin player, all excellent. I thought the drinks were reasonably priced for a hotel, glass of Rose 8e and a small beer 4e. Coffee's other than breakfast 4e. The location was perfect, 5 minutes up the road finds the excellent and fairly priced supermarket which stocks all you will need. Around the corner from that is the train station which travels back and forth to Sorrento and Naples all day. Please note the trains are well used and you certainly won't have it to yourself and If elderly do know you will probably be strap hanging. It is very cheap! Great way to visit Sorrento and Pompeii. We took the concierge's advice and booked the 65e trip to Positano and Amalfi and were so happy we did. It meant we always had a seat, ther mini bus collected us from the hotel, took us to Massa Lubrense to pick up the boat and it was so peaceful at sea. Do know that the Amalfi coast is very busy and extremely FABULOUS! Just do it! Would we return? In a heartbeat. Never met a member of staff here who did not treat us in a friendly yet professional manner and add to our holiday experience, Location is perfect, please know that Sorrento is beautiful and very full, busy and noisy, Sant Agnello less so but just as beautiful. Rooms and food are very good. We did not have one complaint. thank you Hotel Alpha for making my 70th Birthday holiday extra special!"

"We loved staying at the Hotel Alpha. We were here for just 5 nights. It is a spotlessly clean, bright hotel, in beautiful lemon-grove grounds. The staff are excellent- professional, friendly, polite, helpful. They booked several tours for us. Our room was great- quiet, a comfy bed, a spacious room with a safe and a mini-fridge, cleaned and tidied every day. Loved the balcony!! Loved the grounds- spacious and relaxed , with lots of quiet places to just sit in the sun, or the shade, under the lemon trees! Breakfast was very comprehensive! We were 'bed and breakfast' guests, but ate on a couple of nights in the pizzeria (not sure what to call it!) from the pizza menu and the 'a la carte' menu. The food was excellent, and reasonably priced. The service was good, and the head waiter lit the gas burner, which kept the place warm. Hotel Alpha is about a mile from the town on Sorrento. We didn't find this a problem... you could easily walk along the main road into the centre of Sorrento in about 30 mins. Or take the more scenic route closer to the coast, which is quieter. Or you could take the train to Sorrento, which is one stop and costs 1 euro, 50 cents. After a long day doing touristy things, we took the train back to St Agnello, on a couple of occasions. The station is just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We loved St Agnello- much quieter than Sorrento."

"Out of all the hotels we stayed at during our trip through Europe, Hotel Alpha Sorrento was easily the most disappointing. The red flags started immediately at check-in. We were told that EVERY TIME we left the hotel, we had to hand our room key back to the front desk. When we asked why, their response was literally, “because we don’t have a lot.” What does that even mean? A hotel doesn’t have enough keys for its own rooms? It immediately made us question the security of the entire key system. Are the keys universal? Can someone just take a key and open any room with it? We obviously don’t know how their key system actually works, but their explanation made absolutely no sense and did nothing to make us feel secure leaving our belongings behind. The cleanliness was also unacceptable. We found ANTS on our BED and in the bathroom. Finding insects crawling around the place you’re supposed to sleep is disgusting and absolutely not something you expect from a hotel, especially one that’s charging high prices. The restaurant experience wasn’t any better. The servers we dealt with were rude, dismissive, and made us feel like we were inconveniencing them just by asking for basic service. The lack of hospitality was shocking. One thing to note, despite having “Sorrento” in the name, the hotel is not actually in central Sorrento. It’s located in Sant’Agnello, in a much more residential area, and Sorrento is a train stop away. Sorrento itself was beautiful. Unfortunately, Hotel Alpha was not the experience we expected at all. We would never stay here again and would not recommend it."
