Capri, cocktails, and calm
ArtHotel Villa Fiorella makes a persuasive case for doing very little, very well. Set in sleepy Massa Lubrense, just outside Sorrento, it swaps Amalfi Coast fanfare for olive groves, lemon trees and a horizon line permanently fixed on Capri. The mood is polished but unfussy: an infinity pool made for long afternoons, a serene spa for when even the sunbathing feels too strenuous, and just 23 rooms and suites so the spotlight stays on you, the sea, and the surroundings.
What gives this place its edge is the personality. This is no generic coastal retreat; the hotel doubles as a small contemporary art gallery, with works by Italian and international artists threaded through the corridors and rooms. Food is another strong suit, from haute cuisine on the terrace at Terrazza Fiorella to poolside plates at Scirocco and starlit cocktails at Cielo Sky Lounge.

Hotel highlights
Perched at the tip of the Sorrentine Peninsula, where the Gulf of Naples meets the Tyrrhenian Sea, Massa Lubrense gives you the great Amalfi Coast show without quite so much audience participation.
From the hotel’s terraces, Capri hovers on the horizon like a particularly glamorous mirage, while the coastline curves away towards Positano. Sorrento is day-trippabe – it’s around 40 minutes by bus – so a bit of bustle is there when you want it.
Dining here has range. Terrazza Fiorella, listed in the Michelin guide, is the headline act: a white-and-blue terrace restaurant where the chef puts a creative spin on local tradition. Expect dishes such as Mediterranean prawns with Sorrento tomato, orange, and vanilla, pasta with cod and peppers, red mullet with peas and sheep’s milk ricotta, and a limoncello soufflé that sounds suspiciously like Amalfi Coast sunshine in dessert form.
For something more relaxed, Scirocco Pool Bar & Sunset Restaurant serves the region’s more unfussy pleasures beside the infinity pool, while Cielo Sky Lounge is the spot for an aperitif before dinner or a cocktail under the stars.
Less bootcamp and more mind-body harmony, the wellness offering here leans into its coastal heritage. The spa is made for unhurried afternoons, with luxurious treatments and a distinctly cocooning feel, while the fitness room is there for those who like to earn their aperitivo.
Facial treatments use Valmont products, with rituals designed to hydrate, firm, and leave skin looking as luminous as the sea outside. The Hydration of the Bisses treatment is all about deep moisture and gentle lymphatic drainage, while the Fit&Tone Peak of Slimness body ritual focuses on muscle fibres, cellulite, and elasticity for a more sculpted finish. There’s also an Energy Massage for when you want to feel both soothed and vaguely reborn.
If you can peel yourself away from the view, the hotel’s surroundings reward curiosity. One of the loveliest options is the simple walk down to Marina della Lobra, a roughly 2km route through nature and small villages, with 15th-century palaces, churches, towers, and regular glimpses of Capri stretched out over the sea. More ambitious walkers can take on the Path of the Gods, a route suspended between sky and sea, with dramatic views across to Li Galli and Punta Campanella.
For food-minded travellers, the options are equally tempting: nearby oil mills offer a look at the area’s “green gold” production, complete with tastings on warm bread, while dairy farms invite you to discover how local mozzarella is made and, importantly, to try it fresh.
