La Medusa Hotel & Boutique Spa

"Our negative review has been almost entirely triggered by a particularly poor experience in the hotel restaurant on night one of our break; this soured the rest of our stay. The hotel itself is a wonderful 18th century villa, set in beautiful gardens full of citrus trees. The teams on reception, in the bar and in fact everywhere else apart from the dining room were superb. Our dining experience started perfectly, we accepted the suggestion of a glass of processo whilst we pursued the menu. When the waiter appeared to take our order I asked if I could see a wine list. The waiter seemed rather put out at my request and said he would have to ask his colleague to come over. He took our order rather than pausing to ensure we had the opportunity to order a bottle of wine. Time passed and no one appeared. We finished our processo , our glasses were clearly empty, any experienced waiter in this sort of restaurant surely keeps an eye on obviously empty glasses. We were only planning to have a main course and dessert. Our food arrived, delivered by the same waiter who took our order. I was expecting him to notice his colleague obviously hadn’t appeared and that our glasses were empty, and perhaps apologise ,but he studiously avoided any reference to our lack of wine. Yes, at this point I could have asked again to see the wine list, or simply ordered a bottle ‘blind’ but with the food already in front of us, the opportunity had passed and we wouldn’t have been able to do justice to a bottle at that point either. Suffice to say that for the rest of the meal the waiting team all ignored the fact that we had no wine. Perhaps I have over exaggerated the importance of this issue, but rightly or wrongly it had a really negative impact and in my opinion is unacceptable in a fine dining establishment. At the very least we should have received an apology.The behaviors displayed by the team in the dining room were not those I would have expected from a hotel of this caliber."

"This is a fabulous hotel, set in the perfect location to enjoy all that this stunning region of Italy has to offer. We could find no fault with any aspect of our stay. The room was spacious, well equipped and very comfortable with a super balcony (we were upgraded by the hotel as we had booked for a week) . The staff were attentive, helpful and friendly - shout out in particular to Anna and Elminio. The hotel provided a free shuttle to and from the local town which has a great promenade and plenty of good restaurants , perfect for watching the sun go down of an evening. We visited Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Capri, Vesuvius and Pompeii and enjoyed using the hotel pool. The hotel grounds are beautiful with a spa, seating areas and a bar / restaurant all designed to create a lovely, relaxing environment and ambience. I’d give this place 10/10 and heartily recommend to anyone considering a long or short stay. You won’t be disappointed !"
