"I found this hotel online when planning my trip to see the 2026 Six Nations Rugby Union match between Italy and England at the Olympic Stadium on 7th March. The price and location seemed very reasonable for a weekend with this type of event. I booked my hotel room directly via the hotel website on 15th July 2025 and suggested to the other travellers (guests B and C) in my group to do the same.
One week before departure, Guest B was contacted via booking.com (where they had made their booking), asking to cancel their booking in exchange for a refund and a goodwill voucher, which they accepted. I was concerned by this so enquired about my own booking, which I was informed by the hotel's front desk that it had been cancelled on the 18th November 2025. I did not authorise this cancellation, nor was I informed. On stating this to the front desk, I was then told that a 'system error' may have been to blame. I then informed Guest C, who had also booked direct through the hotel website and suggested they check their booking. Guest C was informed that their booking was cancelled on 18th November 2025, with "system error" a possible explanation.
Follow up and request for remedies:
On 2nd March 2026 (the day I discovered the cancellation): I requested that the Catone Distict Hotel, and it's parent group either reinstate my booking, or find suitable accommodation at no extra cost to myself. I did not receive a response from either the hotel or the group.
On 3rd March 2026 Given the immediacy of the trip I had no option but to secure alternative accommodation for myself. Guests B and C did the same. I presented the facts of the case (multiple cancellations, inconsistent explanations, multiple guests on same weekend as major sporting event) again to the Hotel Group requesting an explanation. No response was received.
Given that the hotel has not responded to my requests, nor to my review of the property, I feel I have no choice but to escalate with consumer protection authorities.
My advice to travellers who book here, around major events, is to confirm with the hotel that your booking is still valid, and to make sure you document all communication."
