A wonderful place to stay in Rome
"We’ve been lucky enough to stay in nice hotels in Rome in the past, but this year we thought we’d try Orient Express Minerva – and we’re very happy that we did, as everything about our 6-night stay was exceptional. First we got an upgrade (from Junior Suite to one with a view of the square below). The room was beautifully furnished and equipped, with a very large and very comfortable bed and with not a sound at any time from anywhere outside. The hotel has only been open just over a year, so all the fittings are in great condition, with a lovely use of darkish marble and wood. (For once, the actual room betters the photos on the site!) We couldn’t have been more comfortable., and loved the view over Piazza Minerva and the Pantheon. The hotel’s location is brilliant for strolling the narrow (and crowded) streets of the old city centre. The downstairs bar/restaurant area is lovely, and breakfast there each day was a delight – excellent range of food, eggs etc cooked freshly to order, first-rate service and all this accompanied by Chiara playing the harp, just delightful. The rooftop bar and restaurant are also great, nice views over the city. We had dinner there on our last night and the food was really good. What tops everything off is the quite amazing service from everyone we met who works in the hotel. Reception, concierge (curators), wait staff at breakfast and at the rooftop, the guys at the entrance, the cleaning staff – everyone made us feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. And we could see that they were like this with all the guests around us as well. I'm hoping the hotel sends a guest questionnaire so that we can name many of the excellent staff. We’ve fallen back in love with Italy, and especially Rome, and when we go back, this is where we’ll stay, without any hesitation. If you’re going to Rome, consider staying here – don’t think you’ll regret it."
Perfection
"What a fantastic Hotel. We were fortunate to have 4 nights at this amazing property. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite with a balcony. The staff knew us by name when we arrived. The Suite was simply amazing. Everything was spotless. The room was very quiet. The bathroom was perfection with a huge tub and separate shower. The shower was huge with a waterfall from the ceiling. No idea where or how they got the water pressure but taking a shower was literally like standing under a waterfall. Separate sinks and lots of towels. The bed and bedding were the finest we have ever experienced in all of our travels. The decor was amazing. Hardwood floors. Complimentary soft drinks and snacks in room. Breakfast area is huge, it appears no expense was spared in its design. It is open aired with a high glass ceiling from what appeared to have been a courtyard in the original palace. Everything from table settings to food to order was exceptional. Live music during the breakfast hours. When we left the hotel for our day to day activities we were greeted by name by the doormen with the same personal greeting upon our return. When we encountered staff we were often asked if there was anything that we needed. We plan on returning to this hotel."
A truly exceptional stay in Rome — warm, elegant, and among the very best
"We travel a great deal and stay in many very good hotels around the world, so it takes quite a lot for a property to leave a lasting impression. Orient Express La Minerva absolutely did. For us, this stay was in the top league and without question one of the finest hotel experiences we have had so far. From the moment we arrived, everything felt polished, warm and genuinely thoughtful. We were also given a very generous upgrade, which was a wonderful gesture and set the tone for the entire stay. We stayed in the Stendhal Suite, and it was truly exceptional. The suite was spacious, beautifully composed and full of character, with remarkable architectural details that gave it a very special sense of place. The painted ceilings, the soft lighting and the balance of historic charm with contemporary comfort made it feel both grand and inviting. The living area was especially memorable, and the whole suite had a calm, elegant atmosphere that made it very hard to leave. The bathroom deserves special mention as well. The shower in particular had an almost incredible sense of space and felt genuinely luxurious. It is rare for a shower to stand out in one’s memory, but this one absolutely did. The Guerlain amenities were also excellent and added another refined touch to the experience. Another detail we greatly appreciated was the open bar in the suite, which was included in the rate and stocked with very fine spirits. It was a very pleasant and generous feature, and one more example of how thoughtfully the guest experience has been designed here. The location is ideal for discovering Rome on foot. So much of the historic centre can be reached easily and comfortably, which makes the stay feel relaxed from the outset. It is a perfect base for both first-time visitors and those who already know the city well. The food and beverage experience (in both outlets) was also very strong throughout. We loved having breakfast served in the suite with the beautiful view over Piazza della Minerva, but breakfast in the restaurant was equally memorable. The format was a very pleasant mix of a small buffet and à la carte service, which felt both elegant and relaxed. A particularly lovely detail was the harpist playing during breakfast. That is something one encounters very rarely, and it created a calm and very special atmosphere without ever feeling intrusive. What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the staff. Beautiful hotels exist in many places. What is much rarer is a team that creates such genuine warmth, ease and personal connection. Everyone we encountered was professional, gracious and attentive, but never in a way that felt formal for its own sake. There was a natural kindness and confidence in every interaction that made the whole stay feel very personal. The personal use of names was especially well handled and contributed a great deal to the sense of being truly welcomed rather than simply processed. That may sound like a small detail, but it makes a real difference. You feel recognised, looked after and entirely at ease. In the best sense, it felt less like staying in a hotel and more like being hosted by very good friends. We would especially like to mention the concierge team around Alessandra, as well as Irene and Daniel at the front desk. (Just to mention a few). They were outstanding throughout: warm, efficient, thoughtful and consistently helpful. Their hospitality felt sincere and never rehearsed. They are a major reason why this hotel stands apart from many others, even at a very high level. There was also a small communication issue during our stay, and it was handled in a calm, gracious and entirely appropriate way, fully to our satisfaction. In our view, moments like that say far more about a hotel than when everything simply runs as expected. The team dealt with it with professionalism and care, and that left a very positive impression. Housekeeping was also excellent. Very, very thorough, discreet and clearly operating at a high standard. The turndown service was equally strong and done with great care. Everything in the suite was maintained beautifully throughout. We also appreciated that the high level of hospitality did not end at departure. The post-stay communication was just as thoughtful as everything else, with a kind message thanking us again for our stay and confirming that our luggage had been collected as planned. That kind of follow-through is rare and says a lot about the seriousness with which guest care is taken here. This is an outstanding hotel in a superb location, but above all it is a hotel with heart. The building is beautiful, the suite was exceptional, and the service was remarkable throughout. We travel a lot, and this one truly plays in the top league."
