Reviews
Profumo Maison Colosseo is a great place from which to explore Rome
"My wife and I stayed at Profumo Maison Colosseo in November of 2024 and January of 2026. Both visits for eight nights. The hotel is beautiful, wonderfully located next to great restaurants, and close to major tourist sites such as the Colosseum, the Forum, and St. John Lateran. Another benefit is that it’s close to the Colosseum subway entrance. The staff is extremely helpful. We had one situation during our first stay that they promptly took care of. The cleaning staff is excellent and prompt. They were also quick to schedule a car for us to get to the airport at the end of our stay. One more benefit for Catholics is that the Basilica of San Clemente is across the street from the hotel. The apse mosaic in San Clemente is world-renowned. My wife and I recommend the Colosseo Cafè, at the end of the block toward the Colosseum. We stopped there every morning for our cappuccini and pastries and developed a friendship with the staff."
Could have been better
"We recently stayed at Profumo Maison Hotel for a three-night family break and, unfortunately, our experience was disappointing, mainly due to the way a maintenance issue was handled. After arriving at around 9:30pm following a delayed flight from the UK, we discovered that our family room had a leak from the ceiling. We reported this immediately and were told it would be looked into. We were offered two separate rooms as an alternative because another family room wasn’t available, but as we were travelling with our children, splitting up wasn’t a practical option. The following day, while we were trying to escape the extreme heat and relax in our room, we were interrupted by reception staff and contractors inspecting the leak. Nothing was repaired that day, and we spent another night in the room. We were then told that repairs would take place the following morning. We went out for breakfast intending to return and finish packing before moving rooms. However, when we came back, we found that our luggage had already been moved to another room and work had begun in our original room. We had never been told that our belongings would be moved in our absence. Personal items, including valuables left in the safe and food in the fridge, were still in the room, and we were very uncomfortable that our possessions had been handled without us being present. Although the hotel manager later apologised for the disruption and explained that the leak was caused by an aircon issue, we felt that communication throughout the situation could have been much better. A simple explanation that our belongings would be moved if we weren’t present would have avoided much of the frustration. We were also disappointed with the breakfast, which we found to be limited in both choice and quantity compared with what we expected. While this may not be an issue for every guest, it didn’t meet our expectations and we didn’t bother eating there again after the first morning. As we were in a unique position to stay in both family rooms, we are able to give the pros and cons to each room. Room Service - Room 18 situation on the same floor as reception had telephone included with room service information. Room 28 situated on a higher floor had neither. TV - Room 18 had smart tv with Netflix etc. Room 28 had no access to the internet (hotel staff couldn’t fix this) as we were there during extreme heat we had to spend more time in the hotel than intended to. Bathroom - Room 18 shower worked ok but mould on walls. Lighting is not good for doing makeup and no window in this bathroom. Room 28 shower door was not fixed properly which caused water to leak onto floor. Shower is not great for kids as it was difficult to get to a good temperature. Window in this bathroom lets in better lighting for make up. A good supply of towels daily and toiletries. Hairdryers are very basic in both rooms. Aircon - Room 18 seems older and not as effective as room 28. Beds and Layout Room 18 double bed and pull out sofa bed with very thin mattress which is uncomfortable. This room also has the desk and large tv placed between the main bed and sofa bed therefore, when a family is relaxing on the beds don’t expect to be able to see each other - you feel a bit distanced. There is a large wardrobe with doors and mirrors which we liked. Room 28 the sofa bed in this room has a better thicker mattress which is much more comfortable and tv is placed on the wall therefore, nothing between the two beds and you can all see each other. There is no wardrobe and the only mirror is in the bathroom. One clothes rail with 6 hangers. Both rooms have fridges stocked with 4 bottles of water on a daily basis. Windows and natural light - Room 18 has two large windows which open up to further frosted look windows which don’t open therefore you cannot see outside and no natural light for doing makeup if this is important to you. Room 28 has one window in bedroom and one of the bathroom, bother are small but better than nothing and can be opened up for a view onto the side street - not much to look at but have some natural light. Breakfast - This is served just next door to the hotel and it looked very basic. No one else was eating there when we arrived approx 7:30, looked basic cafe type, few croissants with flies flying around as these weren’t covered and doors were open due to heat. Fruit didn’t look great but husband said the apple tasted ok. In terms of hot breakfast, some sloppy scrambled egg, chicken sausage and some bacon all on covered tins, some roast potato’s in uncovered bowl. Few other picky bits, no big plates for breakfast, didn’t see any toast and butter or pancakes. Location - Great - very close to colosseum and on the same street as many restaurants. Very easy to get to from the metro. We sorted our own transport to airport which cost 38 euros in total for 4 of us for metro/bus one way, hotel said they could provide transfers for 95 euros one way."
Profumo Maison Colosseo - Stay in July
"We stayed at the Profumo Maison for two days in July. Overall, this was a fantastic stay, and had everything we wanted! Room - The room itself was very clean, and the Air Conditioning was very welcome to get out of the hot Rome heat. There was a mini fridge, coffee maker and all of the standard amenities. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom itself was very spacious! My wife and I never felt like we were on top of each other. Staff - The staff was always friendly and able to help with any of our requests, and they scheduled our shuttle pickup the day we were departing, and helped us with all of our bags with no issue. Food - The restaurant was directly next door, and the breakfast buffet had everything we wanted to start our day. Location - This hotel was in a prime location. We were only about a five minute walk from the Coliseum, and there was a metro station only a two minute walk away. On the street we were on, there was plenty of bars and restaurants all within a two to three minute walk, including a convenience store right next door. Overall, I would recommend this stay to anyone visiting Rome! If we visit Rome again, we will absolutely book this location again!"
