"Arrived in a group and were booked in swiftly and efficiently. I had a room fronting onto the street but I wasn’t disturbed in the night. Issues became clear immediately. I had *one* teabag next to the kettle and no coffee or milk. I went to reception to ask for coffee and milk and this seemed to confuse them. “There is coffee at breakfast?” I explained I would like coffee in the room and when I got back after dinner, there were a number of coffee sachets but no milk. I asked again for milk but they simply won’t offer milk in the room. The coffee sachets were not replenished when I used them.
On our first full evening we sat in the lovely garden and asked *at their bar* for some drinks. After several times being told repeatedly “in five minutes” we were then told they were apparently too busy to serve any drinks so we left and found a lovely local bar who looked after us perfectly. On other evenings we had similar issues with the same member of staff clearly not interested in serving drinks. He would take orders and just not come back. It appeared that they sometimes had a member of staff solely allocated to serving drinks and then it was fine. On other nights there was nobody allocated and they simply wouldn’t serve you even if you went into the bar.
Breakfast is mentioned repeatedly through these reviews and we had exactly the same issues. If you want cake for breakfast, you’re in luck. If you don’t then you will struggle. They offer scrambled eggs and bacon, but as everyone else has already said, they are stone cold. Not warm, but absolutely cold. The bacon sits in a solid lump of congealed fat and I literally couldn’t get any out. On the third day the scrambled egg tray was empty and the staff brought out a fresh tray. I thought for once I’d get some hot eggs but they came out from the kitchen fridge cold. I have no idea how they can manage this dreadful level of service. Tables were not cleared or cleaned and several, days I had to ask for cutlery and for the previous person’s dishes to be cleared. This is basic stuff.
The only way to get hot drinks at breakfast is to ask a member of staff. Good luck ever getting more than one hot drink as the staff just avoid eye contact, and of course there is no coffee and milk in the room.
This is a beautiful old villa, and I absolutely loved my room. There were some keen and helpful staff both at reception and at breakfast but sadly those above them were unfriendly, unhelpful and downright miserable. If you are using this hotel simply as a base, then if you can cope with one cup of coffee and some cake for breakfast you’ll be fine. If your expectation is higher than this you should find somewhere else."
