Lakeside luxury
If you’ve been dreaming of a luxurious holiday by the water, the Villa Flori hotel is a must-stay. It couldn’t be any closer to the lake, and as such, many parts of the hotel have views over the water. You’ll find it in a pocket-sized park, nestled between cedar and magnolia trees, just north of Como. If you do want to explore the city, take a 40-minute wander along the lakefront path, or hop in a taxi for a 10-minute drive. We’d recommend the walk, though, as you’ll pass the beautiful Villa Olmo on route – a huge neoclassical villa, which was once a summer retreat for aristocrats.
Rooms here are cosy and calming, and many have small balconies with views over the water. Each one comes with free Wi-Fi, a TV, and a private marble-clad bathroom. Head up to the top floor of the hotel, meanwhile, and you’ll find a spa featuring treatment rooms, a sauna, a Turkish bath, and a sun terrace overlooking the lake. There’s also a small fitness room. And if you’d like to explore the lake on two wheels, bike hire is available.
If you fancy eating at the hotel, you’re in luck. The Raimondi Restaurant serves Italian dishes made from fresh local ingredients, and there’s a bar for drinks. If you fancy dining al fresco, head out to the restaurant’s wrap-around terrace, which overlooks the lake. For drinks, look no further than the Lounge Bar, where there’s often live music. You can also set yourself up for the day at the free Continental breakfast buffet.
