"Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is a spectacular property and a true luxury splurge. The location in Bellagio is 10/10, the grounds are beautiful, and the lakeside facilities make staying here feel very special. We loved the "beach club" area and being able to swim directly in Lake Como, with private steps, a pontoon and a diving board. The beach club service was excellent, and spending time by the water was a highlight of our stay. Breakfast was the best we experienced during our trip through Italy. Served in a magnificent grand ballroom, the setting and attentive table service made it an occasion to look forward to each morning. The biggest opportunity for improvement is the arrival experience. For a hotel of this calibre and price, we expected a warm, personalised welcome - perhaps a glass of sparkling wine and a relaxed introduction to the property. Instead, check-in took place at the counter, followed by being shown to our room without a tour or explanation of the facilities. It felt routine when it should have felt special. I raised my disappointment with guest services, and we were subsequently shown another room within the same category. Moving from the first to the third floor made a considerable difference: the room was in a quieter part of the hotel and suited us much better. We appreciated the team responding to our concerns and also giving us us a small bottle of sparkling. The gym was less impressive. It is in a separate building towards the back of the property, requiring an uphill walk, and the opening time was too late for us as international travellers waking early. Despite these points, we loved the property and would happily return. The setting, grounds and breakfast are exceptional. A more thoughtful, personalised check-in would ensure the experience feels worth the investment from the moment guests arrive. The property itself will not disappoint! Magical location!"
