Arty island beauty

Capri brings the drama in all the right ways: soaring cliffs and deep blue sea. Life ‘round these parts, though, is remarkably drama-free – which makes it the perfect place to experience La Dolce Vita. And let us introduce our pick for a slow, sophisticated take on island life: Jumeirah Capri Palace.

This is a tale of two locations: the main hotel tucked into the outskirts of Anacapri – swish, serene, sensational – and the exclusive beach club, clinging to the clifftop overlooking the famed Blue Grotto. Dining spans just-caught seafood and hearty Italian flavours, with a two Michelin-starred celebration of Mediterranean cuisine at the heart of things.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

Hotel highlights

Il Ristorante L’Olivo, and its two Michelin stars, is the obvious headline – tasting menus that more than earn the fuss. But there’s a whole world worth of cuisine beyond it. Zuma Capri trades Italy for Japan, dishing up contemporary flavours built for sharing – and lingering.

Il Riccio does seafood the way the Med intended, and serves it up cliffside, with a front-row seat to the main attraction. A-ma-re Capri has also snagged a spot on the water, but channels Naples in its offering: pizzas and pastas without the pretence. And when the plates are cleared, Bar degli Artisti pairs inventive cocktails with contemporary art, while Nox Capri suits the late-night crowd: cocktails and DJs long after the sunset.

Why settle for one picture-perfect setting when you could have two? First, you’ve got the hotel: shrouded in a painstakingly well-kept set of gardens in a sleepy corner of Anacapri. Far enough away from the well-trodden streets of Capri Town that you can’t hear the crowds, but close enough to get your fill when the mood strikes – and it will. Rare is the traveller who can resist the pull of its narrow streets and lively piazzas.

Then, the beach club: the cliffside jewel in the Jumeirah crown. The cliff face is studded with terraces that feel as if they were designed for the bistro tables and chairs they now host – because what good is a showstopping setting if you can’t enjoy it with a glass of something cold?

Capri Medical Spa is the island’s only medical spa, which tells you everything about how seriously they take unwinding here. Start the day with a yoga or Pilates class before treating yourself to the signature Leg School treatment – a curative mixture of mud, bandages, and hot-cold therapy that’s rather better than it sounds.

Or, for the weary traveller: the jet lag massage, an orange and lavender-scented journey that’ll make your body forget you just stepped off a plane. Between the indoor pool, the sauna, and the couples’ massage worth clearing an afternoon for, this is the art of doing nothing, perfected.

The food. Classic flavours, contemporary fusions, produce that tastes of sunshine and sea air – marvellous, moreish, meals you won’t soon forget.

The hotel’s exclusive art collection. It feels right at home on an island that’s long attracted artists and creatives in their pursuit of inspiration.

Hikes along the rugged coast of Anacapri and beyond. From Roman ruins and sweeping sea views to green-cloaked hills and the famous Blue Grotto, this is an island that’s crying out to be explored.
