Covid-19 Testing

Covid-19 Testing

To meet the various government requirements on testing for international travel, it’s really important that you read the following information and source the right tests from government approved providers so you can get away on your holiday.

Testing requirements of your destination

There are all sorts of factors which might affect whether you’ll need to take a test before you go on holiday, such as where you’re travelling to, your vaccination status, and age of the travellers. You’ll need to visit the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) website to find out more and check the latest information for your holiday destination. We recommend that you register for the FCDO email alerts, as requirements can change between booking your holiday and travelling. Whilst it’s your responsibility to meet the entry requirements for your destination, we want you to get away on your holiday without any hassle, so we have partnerships with testing providers who can help you get what you need.

There are two different types of tests which overseas destinations may ask holidaymakers to have taken before they board their outbound flight, which are PCR and antigen (also known as rapid flow) tests. It’s important to find out which of these, if any, you need to take as if you get the wrong one you may spend more money than you need to, or it may not be the right one which enables you to go on holiday. Some destinations may not accept self-administered antigen tests (those taken at home), so these may need to be administered by a healthcare professional in person. It’s worth knowing that in some destinations, being fully vaccinated might mean you don't need to take a test to enter.

Keep in mind that, if you need one, you’ll typically need to have done your tests and received the negative result within 48 or 72 hours of when you’re due to arrive at your holiday destination airport (although this will vary by destination), so planning ahead is important. You'll also be required to show your negative test result certificate at your departure airport prior to boarding.

We’re working with a couple of different providers to offer discounted rates to customers - you can find their details further down this page. Depending on the test you need, where you live, and which UK airport you’re travelling from, one provider may be better for you than the other – the choice is yours.  Alternatively, you can of course, source your own test but please make sure you check it meets the standards required by governments. Please note, NHS tests cannot be used for travel.
