Hotel Vellir

"Close to the airport and a nice breakfast and something for everyone. Free parking in front and large room with good beds. Downsides: It smelled quite strange in the hallway and in the room. We could open a window, but then you have to sleep with earplugs because of a lot of traffic noise. The room was also very quiet. We could even hear the neighbor snoring. So really take earplugs. The bathroom was fine but the door had quite a bit of water damage. The bed was good, only a very flat pillow. No extra pillows available either. But luckily we could solve it by putting some towels under the pillow."

"The Hotel was great however the location was not so great. Iceland is expensive so, getting around in taxis was costly."

"We spent our last night in Iceland at Hótel Vellir and were satisfied overall. The location to the airport is convenient; furthermore, many free parking spaces are available directly at the hotel. The beds were comfortable and the staff was extremely attentive. Already at check-in, we were asked if it was our first or last night in Iceland. Since we had to go to the airport very early, a breakfast to go was prepared for us and provided chilled at the exit – a really good service. As hotel guests, you can also use the Katla gym with sauna and hot tub. You should plan some time for this, because this option is a super nice addition to the stay. We found it less good that there was no refrigerator in the room. Especially for chilled souvenirs or breakfast you brought yourself, for example with a low-carb diet, this would have been very practical. With the low outside temperatures, we could leave our things in the car, but that is not an ideal solution. In the bathroom, there was also no ventilation, which meant the humidity was quickly very high and stayed in the bathroom all night. Also annoying were the undamped room doors, which were set very tightly to close automatically. When other guests arrive late, they slam shut very loudly and can significantly disturb sleep. Overall a good choice for the night before an early flight, especially because of the location, the free parking spaces, and the very friendly service. However, we felt the price-performance ratio for what was offered was too weak, as is the case everywhere in Iceland, since the overnight price charged is that of a luxury hotel by German standards."
