Comfortable, central base for exploring Reykjavik

If you're after a modern, comfortable and centrally located base for exploring Reykjavik – and perhaps further afield, too – the Hotel Klettur certainly fits the bill. It's on a quiet street just a few minutes' walk from Laugavegur (the city's main boulevard, running through the middle of downtown) and within easy reach of the waterfront.

A 10-15 minute walk will take you to the iconic Hallgrimskirkja, which dominates the city's skyline with its distinctive, rocket-shaped tower. Just around the corner, meanwhile, is Hlemmur Mathöll – a lively food court in what used to be the city's main bus terminal. There, you'll find everything from modern Icelandic cuisine to authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas and top notch Mexican street food, as well as several bars serving all kinds of local beers, cocktails, and plenty more.

What Hotel Klettur has to offer

    Hlemmur Mathöll

From authentic Vietnamese and Mexican street food to experimental twists on traditional Icelandic cuisine, this compact food hall brings together an eclectic mix of vendors inside what used to be Reykjavik’s main bus terminal. With a relaxed, convivial atmosphere, reasonable prices and live music on weekends, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable place to hang out – and it’s just a short stroll from the hotel’s front door.

    Laugavegur

It’s virtually impossible not to walk up and down Laugavegur a few times while visiting Reykjavik – especially when staying at this hotel, which is just a few minutes away from it. Here, on what is undoubtedly the liveliest street in the whole of Iceland, you’ll find everything from cosy craft beer bars and trendy fashion boutiques to artisan bakeries and even a Michelin star restaurant. It’s also the best place in the city to hunt for souvenirs.

    Cosy bar

There's no shortage of great bars to choose from in Reykjavik, and the hotel's very own makes a great starting point for a night out. It's a warm, cosy setting with lots of comfortable sofas, board games to borrow, and, most importantly, excellent value drinks during happy hour (5pm-8pm).

Find out more about Reykjavik City

As you traverse the lunar-like lava fields that characterise the landscape around Keflavik, Iceland’s main international airport, you may feel like you’ve arrived on another planet. A soak in the steaming, milky blue waters of the Blue Lagoon may further solidify that impression. Once you arrive in Reykjavik, though, you’ll discover a city with a cool, cosmopolitan vibe, a flourishing food and drink scene, and a kaleidoscope of brightly painted houses that offer endless satisfying photo opportunities.
