"I was initially minded to give this a higher star rating but after one of the worst nights sleep ever that has changed dramatically
So, here’s the truth about the hotel. If you are taken to BSI by flybus they will stop at the BSI terminal, lots of other buses will take you to your hotel but not for the Holt
You get told it’s close by and turfed out
Now the truth of the statement is somewhat mixed, is it close by ? Well yes and no, proximity wise it’s reasonably close I guess
It’s about a ten minute walk up steep hills
If you’re disabled ? Forget it your going to struggle
We have an asthmatic in our party and at the top of the hill to the hotel she had a full blown attack due to the steepness
Another of our party is disabled and it nearly broke them getting up the hill with cases, seeing you struggle with a walking stick and obvious mobility issues, the travel firms just don’t care
Sorry but it’s true
This has to be included as it’s part or the hotels positioning
So going to the hotel itself, it’s clean and the staff are friendly, the rooms are in general perfectly ok
The lift is small, and there is zero way you would get a mobility scooter in, no way so that’s not ideal
But the lift is functional and it works
So the staff, are lovely and very welcoming you can’t fault that and actually the reason it gets three stars is largely down to the staff
In terms of accessibility the hotel is actually not badly situated
It’s close to a major bus stop number 2 the pond so you can easily arrange to be picked up there
It’s literally at the bottom of the hill and turn right and walk along to it so that’s good and the shops are right there too
The bathroom is nice with complimentary toiletries fresh towels and hair dryers
The tap water if your going to drink it turn the cold on and let it run for thirty seconds, it’s apparently very good water and comes through the volcanic rocks so is pure
So turn the tap right to get to get the cold water, the hot smells of sulphur as it’s again volcanic waters be prepared for the egg smell of the hot water but it’s not the worst
There is a tv in the room with English channels on it a coffee machine, no small milk pots so bring your own
There is a selection of small bits you can buy
A pack of crisps not a big one but a tiny one is around £4.50 the chocolate bar ? £10
We are a married couple and booked as such so when we got in and found we were in singles it’s the first time in 14 years we have had to sleep apart. You’re still in the same room. But separated.
Not the worst thing in the world but if you have a road facing room like we did you will hear every car going past all night. Someone in the room above makes a noise ? You’re going to hear it all night. Last night someone had their kids running around until well after 1am and it was impossible to sleep. I assume it was directly above but it could be any of the rooms as the sound dampening is not really existent.
The beds size is shocking, I don’t know if it says for midgets only in the advert but it should. I am 5’11 and I kept thing I would fall out of the bed if I rolled over
Think small camping bed dimensions and your there
But that’s not the worst part about the beds, the rooms have clearly been designed for double beds, why we didn’t get one ? I don’t know
B it as a result of this they have two singles pressed up against the wall, but they back onto the light switches which presumably are the exact right position for a double beds
However with the singles they sit onto the light switch, the pillows actually press onto them
So if you lean back it can either turn he light on or off which is crazy
If you have your pillows at the top where they are positioned your light will come on and off all night as you turn over or move
The only way around that is to move further down the bed to try and avoid it, you will still catch it but not as much. However, you then have your legs dangling over the end of the bed and that is simply not comfortable at all
So you then don’t get a good not get a good nights sleep
I am sure if your 5’4 then the beds are fine
But for an average sized bloke they are not good at all
I am sure whoever put the singles in must be small in high or never tried to sleep in them as there is no way you would position them over a light switch it’s stupid"
