101 Hotel

"Nice and spacious hotel in the middle of Reykjavik. Friendly staff and big room. Amazing location."

"very sharp and nice show appearance rooms, but unlike NYC hotel rooms, the layout is counterintuitive to actually using anything. The Nat Geo expedition rooms are half as big, yet more than twice as functional. 101 has No desks/chair to use for a laptop, no trash can outside of the toilet stall (you end up having to make baskets by tossing over the toilet bowl, sometimes making the 3 pointer and sometimes you miss and it ends up getting flushed into the toilet. I specifically booked a room the was inclusive of all taxes/fees on the Marriott app, as I’m a “do what you say you will do” kind of guy, but was still fleeced on check-in for 800 ISK per night (during eclipse time so no other reasonably priced rooms around elsewhere e.g. pay the misleading/deceiving 101 tax surcharge the was said to be included during booking . or you sleep on the street or pay double or more elsewhere. So, I spent the equivalent of about $550 IS/night for an average night stay, no ability easily use my laptop, no drawers, chests or other closet-like feature (e.g. lived out of my suitcases for 4 nights/5 days and a feeling of being fleeced/ripped off by the hotel for charging additional taxes on a “all taxes and fees included” booking (this was in writing, not that Amy of the 3 people I talked to at the hotel seemed to care. 101 clearly doesn’t know hospitality or room design, it has a great location, but that’s pretty much the only amenity worth anything."
