Stay in a hot spring town
About an hours’ drive from Reykjavik you’ll find Hveragerdi – a town that’s proved to be a popular stop along the Golden Circle route. But why limit yourself to a couple of hours or a day trip when you could base yourself at Hotel Örk and explore the town and the wider region with ease?
The biggest draw here is the landscape, so if you’re all about the great outdoors you’ll love it. Hiking trails snake their way through the surrounding hills, through forests and past hot springs. If you’re not sure where to start, hotel staff will be on hand to point you in the right direction and help organise excursions and hiking trips.
Head into town, meanwhile, and alongside a smattering of shops and restaurants, you’ll find Hveragerdi Geothermal Park with hot mud pools and springs. There’s a popular swim spot just 10 minutes’ drive outside town, too, at the Reykjadalur Hot Spring.
Back at the hotel there’s an outdoor pool, plus a hot tub and sauna, so you can unwind on-site after a busy day. And if you don’t fancy seeking out a dinner spot in town, the hotel restaurant serves up traditional Icelandic cuisine that’ll be sure to tempt your tastebuds.
