Zante holidays

A sporty sunshine resort

Located on the northeast side of Zante island is the quaint town of Alykes. Nestled among verdant olive groves and vineyards, the town is home to several salt flats, from which it derives its name – Alykes in Greek means saltern or salt flat.

Alykes holidays are ideal for sporty types. The town is surrounded by lush countryside and pine-forest-studded mountains, which are great for hiking and mountain biking. The resort’s beach forms part of a sweeping bay, with fine white sand and enough space for visitors to spread out, even in high season.

The pretty Skourtis River runs from the turquoise Ionian Sea through the town, separating the resort from neighbouring Alykanas. The local beaches are also perfect for water sports, as they aren’t restricted by turtle-nesting sites like the beaches in the south of the island. Families, couples and adrenaline junkies alike will all love holidays to Alykes.

Your Alykes questions, answered

Although summer is the most popular time to go, March to May is quieter, while in late spring the Easter parade takes place and the island is awash with flowers.
The salt flats are within walking distance of Alykes’ centre and are a popular local attraction, particularly because they’re home to an array of rare wildlife, including owls and lizards.
Alykes is home to a wide sandy beach with shallow water, making it safe for children. The best spot is arguably at the eastern end of the bay.
