"Let's start with the journey to get here, as it's important. We had a 6.15am flight from Birmingham and after a delay due to ATC, we arrived around 12pm (10am UK time).
After we queued for around 30 mins at passport control, we were then directed to our coach which took us around a mile to Skiathos port. We were told to meet at 3.15pm at a cafe to join the rep who would take us to the ferry at 4.15pm. She assured us it would take 40-45 mins to reach Skopelos (more like one hour and twenty mins), so we finally reached our hotel at 5.45pm, so the first day a write off, pretty much.
We're on day 4 and already dreading the journey home.
The hotel itself is very oldy worldy. Fine if you like that sort of thing.
There's a good sized pool with a reasonable amount of sun loungers, but they're not padded and not very comfortable.
The bar area is run by Goerge who is probably the best thing about the whole hotel. He starts at 11am and sometimes works til after 1am. Nothing is too much trouble and he never takes a day off.
The rest of the staff are ok, but none seem overly friendly.
We asked for a kettle for the rooom, but we were told it's not in the Greek culture. Sorry, but we're the customers. Shouldn't they give us what we want?
Breakfast is adequate. Nothing more, nothing less. It opens at 8am - no earlier, so if you're out early for a trip - tough! Same food every day. No variations.
The rooms have air con, but that's about the only compliment I can pay. The bathroom is small, with barely enough room to shower and use the toilet - I'm 6ft 2in and found it very challenging.
The furniture and decor throughout needs modernising. Antiques Roadshow would have a field day!
There's no daytime or evening entertainment, or evening food, so you need to go into the town for something to do and eat.
It's not a huge trek, but it is quite hilly, so be prepared.
We loved the vibe in the harbour. Lots of tavernas, cafes and bars.
We couldn't fault the food!
The back streets are really magical, especially late in the evening and almost all the shops stay open util late.
One thing we won't miss are the cars, mopeds and bikes that zoom round the narrow streets. It's like the bloody M6 at times.
Also, the harbour is supposed to be pedestrian only on an evening. That's a joke. Most ignore the barrier and just drive round it, so be careful. We saw a few near misses.
Would we come back. No!
Great harbour area. Lovely Bar Manager. Fantastic weather. Amazing Food. The rest you can keep. We may try Skiathos next year. At least we'll get an extra half a days' holiday!"
