Modern digs by the water
Boasting modern lodgings and a great location, Casa Blue Hotel is an ideal base for a trip to Skiathos – especially if exploring is on your agenda. Head to the port and you can catch a ferry to the likes of nearby Skopelos or hop on a water taxi to one of the pristine beaches that this island is famed for. You needn’t take to the water to get your exploring in, either. Lace up your walking shoes and wander around the streets in town – there’s plenty to see and do right on the doorstep.
Before you get to grips with your surroundings, fill up on a hearty breakfast at the hotel, which lays on a buffet spread each morning. For lunch and dinner you’ll have your pick of places in the neighbouring streets. Casual eateries, sophisticated restaurants, and cosy local tavernas are all mainstays here, so you won’t be short on options. And there are plenty of bars on offer, too.
When you’re ready to roll into bed, you’ll find your room is fresh and airy, decked out in stylish neutrals that are totally in keeping with the whitewashed houses that are so quintessentially Greek.

Find out more about Skiathos Town
The neighbourhood of Plakes, with its maze of cobbled streets and whitewashed houses draped in Bougainvillea, is just asking to be Instagrammed. Likewise with the Old Port, which was one of the locations used in the hit musical movie, Mamma Mia!. The impressive Agios Nikolaos bell tower made an appearance, too, and it’s easy to see why. Pause at the churchyard for panoramic views over the port.
Papadiamantis Street is the main commercial street, and is the place to go for gyros, ice cream, souvenirs, and buzzing cocktail bars. It’s named after Alexandros Papadiamantis, the father of modern Greek literature, whose former childhood home has been turned into a museum nearby. Skiathitiko Spiti, a museum dedicated to the island’s traditional way of life, is well worth a visit too.
