Sea views in the heart of Skiathos

Idyllic island escape? Sign us up. A stone's throw from tree-lined beaches and cobblestoned streets in Skiathos Town, Alkyon Hotel could be just the place for a bit of well-earned R&R.

Start your morning at the breakfast buffet, where you’ll find plenty of Greek cuisine, such as olives, cheeses, cold cuts and much more. When you’ve cleaned your plate, take a plunge in the outdoor pool, which sits amongst pretty gardens. As the sun begins to set and you’re feeling those hunger pangs, enjoy a fine-dining experience at the Carnayo Restaurant, just a hop, skip, and a jump from the edge of the sea.

And if you feel like exploring, the hotel is a short walk away from the village centre, where you’ll find a slew of boutiques and restaurants along the charming streets, which are perfect for an afternoon wander. When you’re ready to see the island's most renowned beaches, jump on the bus for just 20 minutes and take a trip to the crowd-pleasing Koukounaries Beach, frequently voted as one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean.

Find out more about Skiathos Town

Skiathos Town is the most cosmopolitan and lively place on the island – but it still retains a quaintness and charm that’ll win you over in an instant.

The neighbourhood of Plakes, with its maze of cobbled streets and whitewashed houses draped in Bougainvillea, is just asking to be Instagrammed. Likewise with the Old Port, which was one of the locations used in the hit musical movie, Mamma Mia!. The impressive Agios Nikolaos bell tower made an appearance, too, and it’s easy to see why. Pause at the churchyard for panoramic views over the port.

Papadiamantis Street is the main commercial street, and is the place to go for gyros, ice cream, souvenirs, and buzzing cocktail bars. It’s named after Alexandros Papadiamantis, the father of modern Greek literature, whose former childhood home has been turned into a museum nearby. Skiathitiko Spiti, a museum dedicated to the island’s traditional way of life, is well worth a visit too.
