"Just returned from a fantastic 10 night stay at this hotel. A lovely small, family run hotel conveniently located about a 5 minute walk from the village of Akrotiri. The hotel is spotlessly clean, quiet and peaceful. A lovely pool and no worries about sunbeds - always available. Good breakfast provided every morning and the food in the restaurant for lunch/dinner very good. The owner Kostas, is super helpful and we booked trips and car hire through him. Would thoroughly recommend if you're looking for an unspoilt location. You can walk to the archaeological ruins at Akrotiri (very interesting) and there's the ruins of a Venetian Castle on top of the hill in the village."

"Hotel Mathios is lovely and very welcoming. We booked 2 day car hire through the enigmatic Kostas as soon as we arrived & a catamaran trip to see the caldera geology and sunset. The car was unexpectedly old but it enabled two wonderful trips out which Kostas suggested to us. We turned the trip around to get to Oia early on day two. The local villages and beach recommendations were spot on. Pyrgos is beautiful and less crowded than other villages. We had to wait for beach sunbeds at Safrans but they were worth the wait (and food was good too). The catamaran trip was equally excellent. Saw so much of the caldera from the sea and then there's the sunset. Wow. The crew were great and the drinks and food were good too. The rooms are cleaned daily and are well laid out. No hot drink making facilities was the only thing missing. We had a pool view which added to the charm. The inclusion of a varied breakfast was much appreciated. I could eat your yoghurt & honey, not to mention the lush feta, any time of day. All the staff were so kind, nothing was too much trouble, and the food in the hotel restaurant was great. We enjoyed the souvlaki, gyros and lamb chops, coffees, house wine and cocktails which were all good. We had a great stay at Hotel Mathios and came home way more relaxed than we imagined. The recommended trips added to the charm of the visit. If you want a few picturesque days out and then relaxing by the pool with nice food and drinks close by, its a great choice. And it always feels easier to enjoy yourselves in a friendly atmosphere."
