Tranquil stay in Santorini

From the tranquil hillside location to the dreamy views of the Aegean – and the volcanic rocks of Santorini – Maison Des Lys has all the ingredients for a serene island getaway.

Days here are best spent relaxing by the pool, which even has a Jacuzzi for that extra bit of R&R. If you’re travelling with the little ones in tow, they’ll have their own dedicated swim spot, too. If you fancy stretching your legs and seeing what the surrounding area has to offer, the village of Akrotiri is about 20 minutes’ walk from the hotel. Known for its pebbled coves, striking iron-stained red cliffs, and for having some of the best views on the island, a stay at Maison Des Lys wouldn’t be complete without a ramble through these streets.

Dine at any one of the many tavernas in town – many of which specialise in tasty seafood – or head back to the hotel and eat at the on-site restaurant. After dinner drinks, meanwhile, will be taken care of in the intimate surroundings of the lounge bar.

When you’re ready to call it a night, you’ll find your suite – which is the norm here – is comfortable and elegant. Spring for a suite with a private pool, meanwhile, and you can take your early morning dip in style.

Find out more about Akrotiri

Akrotiri, in the southwest of Santorini, is a rustic haven for those who want to slow down and take life at a relaxed pace when on holiday. Historically, however, the little town was rather busier. Sometimes referred to as the ‘Pompeii of the Aegean’, the ancient settlement of Akrotiri was a thriving centre of commerce in the Minoan empire before a volcanic eruption took place around the 17th century BC, burying the town in ash and forcing its evacuation.
