Avra Imperial Hotel

"I LOVED THIS PLACE. We have just left the hotel after a 7 night stay to celebrate our engagement. They kindly gave us a room upgrade. Could not have asked for a better location within the hotel for us as a couple. As we were close to the pool, bars and restaurants. On our 1st full day we received a hand written card with bottle of prosecco and a fruit platter to congratulate us. Although the hotel has a variety of bars and restaurants, there is not much around it except a few cafes, restaurants and a bar. There is a bus from just outside to take you to Chania(45 mins) and there is a more lively town about 20 mins away on the same bus if you want to have a change of scenery. We rented a quad from just around the corner and had a trip to Balos Beach there was abit of of roading involved getting there and ALOT OF STAIRS down the hill side...... but worth every step in the end. Carry some cash as will be needed in some places like parking and small cafes. We lost our cash somewhere along the way on the quad. We ate in the Basilico buffet at least once every day and was impressed by the variety and standard of food. All the waiters and waitress were brilliant. They really wanted to keep up a good standard. Restaurant like service with drinks and table clearance. 10 out of 10. Natasa and her colleagues in the la bar lounge were so warm and friendly. They really made an effort with us as they did everyone around us. Iro in the petit Bar was a pleasure to be around. Her happy character was infectious. I enjoyed my chats with her very much she genuinely made me laugh. SHE LOVES HER JOB ♥️ AND IS BRILLIANT AT IT!!! From the moment we arrived to leaving the service was amazing WELL DONE to every last member of staff and the housekeeper who solved the mystery of the missing sunglasses,THANKYOU."

"Hotel approx 45 mins in car from Chania airport, nothing really around the hotel, town is very quiet. Hotel was only at 30% capacity during our stay as its end of season however still felt relaxed. Food was really good, in fact best I’ve had in a buffet and al a carte setting for another country, it was fresh and different. The Asian restaurant on site is something else! Food was fantastic. Big pools, clean everywhere and service from all the staff was really good. The rooms are the only thing stopping this being 5/5 for me. Considering the price paid and the rest of the complex, high standard of food, the rooms were a little underwhelming, or certainly ours was. It was very tired, worn and needs an upgrade. Room was really big including balcony."

"A really good hotel, well-made rooms, quality restaurants, exceptional service, truly deserves these 5 * However, a few details to review: - upon arrival, no one to accompany us to our room which is on the other side of the road, and forced to carry our suitcases up the stairs due to not knowing the layout upon arrival. - the drinks in the room fridge cost extra!! I did not understand and this is not normal for a 5-star, not even a bottle of water! - reservations for outings are complicated because no one speaks French and no effort is made at the concierge desk to explain things to us. The excursions we took did not suit us... Cash payment required, and no receipt or proof of payment! - benches near the pools or sea reserved all day without seeing anyone! The lifeguard could check every hour... - evenings sometimes long because there is no activity or show. Too bad. Even though it is an exceptional hotel, we will not return because of these problems."
