"Overall the City Green Hotel is good, maybe not 4* good, but all of your necessities are covered, and well. The staff are friendly and helpful, buffet was very good, location is excellent. We had a wonderful holiday & would return!
Pool - the hotel has 2 pools, which we found to not include ‘sunbed wars’ at 5am, but do not expect to find an empty bed after 9am. However, there are not nearly enough beds for all guests when the hotel is full and only half of them get sun in the morning, while the other half have the sun in the afternoon. A very small handful saw the sun all day, within 2 days all guests work out which ones these are and they go rather quickly in the morning.
Rooms- after some moving, we were very happy with our room. In rooms 2001-2005, the space the hotel call a ‘terrace’ is a table & 2 chairs in a walkway, which never receives any sun, on a lower level, right next to the pool. Our first room was a triple room, with next to no floor space (even the wardrobe could not be opened without moving a bed) and came with a tiny window, placed inches above the road, meaning the curtains must remain closed at all times otherwise strangers on the street can see directly into your room. This results in no natural light at all. Moreover, the bathroom is tiny & dated. After 2 nights we were kindly moved to a balcony room which overlooked the pool and worked perfectly for us. Room was large & spacious, while the bathroom was clean & modern!
Food- the buffet at the hotel is very good, we were very happy with the choices at all mealtimes. Breakfast is your standard mix of cooked and continental. lunch & dinner always saw a ‘safe option’ of chips/pizza/onion rings, along with some lovely traditional Creten dishes! Due to the local tastes, options are ‘pork heavy’ but there was always a chicken/beef option too! Lots of fresh salads, cheese & breads too. Only thing that let the buffet down for us were the dessert options, these were the same boring & somewhat tasteless items every lunch & dinner. However, there are plenty of ice cream shops & even a wonderful bakery within less than a 5 minute walk of the hotel! The Restaurant team, and chefs, were always helpful & friendly- they work very hard keeping the restaurant clean & ready for use!
However, note that the restaurant is on the roof of the hotel (level 4) with only 1 small elevator which often has queues of guests waiting at meal times. However, the views are beautiful!
Location- the location of the hotel is perfect! The main ‘strip’ is less than 1 minute walk, with the beach reachable within 2 minutes. Here there are lots of shops, cafes, restaurants & bars! There is also a bus stop within a couple of minutes walk which can take you to places such as Heraklion & Malaia.
Entertainment- do not expect much in way of entertainment at the hotel. On Monday nights a saxophonist plays and on Fridays the restaurant offers a ‘BBQ’ and Creten dancing. When we visited the weather was a little questionable some evenings and this resulted in the entertainment being put on inside the restaurant. This lead to tables being removed to create space, queues of guests at the door waiting for tables and tables remaining occupied for the whole of dinner service to enjoy the entertainment. Again, the team worked hard to help & even tried to set some more tables up around the buffet area but lots of guests were disappointed to be waiting up to 20-30minutes for a table. On the nights the entertainment could be outside, the limited space around the pool & bar area became even more limited and guests were forced to sit on the sunbeds & floor to watch/listen.
Bar - there is only 1 bar at the hotel, located next to the pool. This has around 10-15 tables & chairs and very quickly fills up in the evenings! Although a very good choice of cocktails, wine, beer, spirits & softdrinks are all included in the all-inclusive, with options to pay for too! A small fridge with some lunch items are also included, with baguettes, salads, cakes etc which was a nice alturnative to the buffet if you preferred! Bar team were super lovely & chatty throughout the day. Additional to this is some seating, table, games & book within the large lobby space of the hotel for those guests who prefer to be inside/on opportunity weather days."
