A rustic Cretan retreat
Set in Old Hersonissos, Balsamico Traditional Suites gives you a quieter, more traditional side of Crete. The village has stone lanes, tavernas and a relaxed local feel, while the coast is around three kilometres away. Hersonissos’ beaches, bars and harbour are close enough when you fancy turning up the tempo.
Back at the property, the feel is small, characterful and nicely Cretan. There’s a freshwater outdoor pool, reception, free Wi-Fi, pool bar and peaceful spaces for lazing between village wanders and beach trips. The Cretan Golf Club is nearby, too, if your holiday needs a gentle sporting subplot.
Food is part of the charm here. The à la carte restaurant serves traditional flavours in a relaxed setting, and the pool bar keeps drinks close by during the day. Around Old Hersonissos, you’ll find tavernas serving grilled meats, salads, local cheese and raki. Old village mood, poolside calm, coast nearby – Crete’s quieter side does good work here.

Find out more about Hersonissos
If you’re looking for the pulse of modern-day Crete, you’ll find it in Hersonissos, which moves to its own rhythm on any given night. While the town’s lively waterfront is the place to party, as anyone on Crete will tell you, Hersonissos holidays offer far more than just nightlife. Away from the vibe of the bars and restaurants, the town is full of history and culture, and it’s not difficult to submerge yourself in both.
