"We recently stayed in the 4-Bedroom Sugar Villa at Filion Suites Resort & Spa and overall had a pleasant family holiday, although there were some areas that could be improved, especially considering the premium price of the villa and all-inclusive package.
The Positives
The villa itself is spacious and well-equipped. The private pool was a fantastic size and our children loved it, although parents should be aware that there is no shallow end, so younger children require constant supervision. There is also a jacuzzi beside the pool, plenty of sun loungers, a BBQ area, and ample outdoor space to relax.
Inside, the beds were extremely comfortable, and the villa offered excellent facilities including three bathrooms with showers, three toilets, air conditioning in every room, a washing machine, ironing board, large fridge, and plenty of towels and toiletries. Parking was also excellent, with enough space for at least four vehicles.
A special mention must go to Regina at reception, who was outstanding throughout our stay. She was always helpful, friendly, and willing to answer any questions or assist whenever needed.
The all-inclusive restaurant offered a reasonable variety of food, and the staff throughout the resort were very friendly and welcoming. We also appreciated the small birthday cake arranged for our daughter during our stay.
Areas for Improvement
The biggest drawback is that the villa is located around a 6-minute drive from the main resort. While the resort advertises it as walkable, the reality is quite different, especially in temperatures exceeding 30°C. The route involves steep uphill sections, making walking uncomfortable for most guests. A rental car is highly recommended, and the roads leading to the villa can be narrow and stressful for less confident drivers.
As all-inclusive guests, we had to drive back and forth to the main hotel for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. There is no room service, no internal phone connecting the villa to reception, and guests must use their own mobile phones to contact the hotel. For a villa that costs significantly more than standard accommodation, it would be nice to have dedicated services available.
The infinity pool view was disappointing as the hedges had become overgrown, blocking much of the sea view. The jacuzzi also appeared not to have been cleaned thoroughly, so we chose not to use it.
Housekeeping was carried out every three days, which may not be frequent enough for some families. Basic items such as toothpaste and combs were also not provided, which was surprising for accommodation marketed as five-star.
The all-inclusive drinks package was probably the weakest aspect of the holiday. Most soft drinks and spirits were non-branded, which noticeably affected the quality of cocktails and mixed drinks. Well-known brands such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Fanta, Sprite, Malibu, Johnnie Walker, and Cîroc were displayed behind the bar, but when requested we were informed that only the house brands were included. While local drinks such as Ouzo were enjoyable, the overall drinks experience did not match our expectations for a five-star resort.
Food quality was generally good with plenty of choice, but after around five days the menu became repetitive. The coffee also left room for improvement.
One disappointment was that although we had informed the resort in advance that both my wife and daughter would be celebrating birthdays during our stay, there was no welcome surprise or arrangement waiting at the villa, despite my willingness to pay for one.
Would We Return?
Possibly, but we would think carefully before booking the villa again. The accommodation itself is excellent and the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. However, constantly driving between the villa and the main resort became inconvenient, and for the premium price paid, we expected a more connected and personalised villa experience.
For couples or families on a more modest budget staying within the main resort, Filion Suites may represent good value. However, if you’re paying extra for a luxury villa and all-inclusive package, there are areas where the service and overall experience could be improved.
