Alexander House Hotel

"It's a lovely looking building and quite grand inside. But, such a shame that the quality and quantity is very inferior to many other local places. It is expensive and not worth the money. 3, one inch by three inch sandwiches, cheese and pickle, ham and trout. The bread was bog standard supermarket. The egg brioche was one inch long and the sausage roll a joke at half an inch wide ...at the most ! The cakes were OK but not worth the money. Two were sponge , boring. Scones ok. What added to the disappointment was the service. If you're old and loud they will faun over you. It took half an hour to get the bill, asked three times, twice I had to go to reception myself. 20 minutes for a box for the cake ! The server went to another party and ignored us. I put my scarf on, I stood up, I put my coat on and in hindsight I should have walked out. Don't ignore your guests. We paid like everyone else. Don't waste your money, there's nicer places in this area. Bitterly disappointed. Just don't go there."

"Still here but so far very average. It’s got the feel of a ‘5 star’ hotel abroad when they don’t really know what the term means. Welcome was average when we arrived, she told us where our room was but other then that, not much more, as well playing a recording or getting ‘Alexa’ to answer any questions. The staff in the cocktail bar were pleasant and then we went for dinner. My son is 11 years old and he was deciding between the kids meal and the rump steak. He chose the rump steak and in my 50 years on this earth I have never seen a rump steak so small, he was still hungry after it at £45. When I mentioned it to the manager her words were ‘ if I was serving I would have told the guest that it is very small and advise them to choose something else, why were we not told this!, why have it on the menu! No interest in resolving the matter. We are fortunate that we have stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world and I just want to confirm this is a ‘4 star’ at a push. Let’s see what breakfast brings! It’s got that feeling of it’s near Gatwick airport, guests will be from abroad so only staying a day or 2 so if it’s average they don’t care. I certainly won’t be back. If the management could visit Gleneagles , Le Touserok in Mauritius or anything of that quality they would understand what 5 star is and decide if hospitality is for them!"

"We have just had an exceptional 3 day break at Alexander House! We booked the Gate house for a special experience as we were celebrating (young) 60th birthday! So for the review: from the start I messaged the hotel to advise we had a special occasion, and they responded to say Hi we are here for whatever you need thank you Rebecca. Arriving on Friday at the gate house, which is a bit special two bedroom two bathrooms the main suite being very luxurious. We had a hamper of warm bread and jam, selection of fruits.delivered l! The fridge was stocked with milk juice and water plenty of.... That evening we spent in the spa (relaxation begins) where we were warmly welcomed by the team, who booked our treatments for the following day! Day 2 we had our breakfast hamper delivered, which was lovely because it meant we could eat when we wanted - headed off to the spa where we all had an amazing massage which we ALL really enjoyed! Fast forward, after relaxing country walk - we cooked up the delivery of food which was lovely Spent the evening chilling in the lovely gate house hot tub which was super. Sunday again we got a delivery of food but chose to go for a walk & eat later, after the most beautiful long walk we arrived back, and stopped by the bar for a lovely cocktail, the bar tender was very welcoming again spending Sunday evening in the spa - which has a good selection of areas sauna, steam hot tubs, pools ect Deciding we needed to check out the breakfast in main house which is absolutely beautiful, again we were warmly welcomed the food was lovely with good breakfast selection! Just checked out and feeling like we had an amazing chilled break... thank you to all the team for making things special we will be back"
