Giannoulis Santa Marina Beach Resort

"Arrived 15th October at around 8.30pm. Heart sank from the moment we walked in. Very dark and dated. Looks like it hasn't changed since the early 90s. Had to take the lift as had our cases. Something out of faulty towers. We took the stairs for the rest of the week. Food was luke warm and oily. Pizza was like thick sliced bread with pizza topping on. Pizza in the pearl wing at lunch time is actually Pizza. Food seemed much better and hot. Unfortunately it closed during our stay so couldn't return. Entertainment. We knew before hand that there wasn't much. We don'treally watchit anyway. But not even a snooker table. Saxophone player on one night and a singer/duet on Thursday night. I entered the bar thinking it was a karaoke night. Reminded me of Phoenix nights end of show auditions 🤣. Rooms area clean. We had a sea view. Coffee facilities aren't great. Coffee sachets and paper cups. Never stayed anywhere that hasn't had proper cups. Our shower door had a gap at the bottom so flooded the bathroom with every shower. Extractor didnt work. Air-conditioning worked well. Staff are lovely and work really hard. 5☆ for them. Lots of beach bars/restaurants on the doorstep. Lovely clean beach with shallow waters. Plenty of free sunbeds. Hotel owners really need to invest some ££ into the hotel. It's a shame because the area is great."

"We arrived at this hotel on 13th October, and I can only sum it up as Fawlty Towers. I tried to book in at reception and was greeted by this conversation. "You will stay one night at another hotel up the road and pay them one night tourist tax. You will return here tomorrow and pay tourist tax for the rest of the week here in this hotel" and that was it! I received no apology from the man whom I found be rude and unprofessional. We were given conflicting reasons why no room was available to us. Was it electrical damage due to a storm over a week prior to our arrival or was it overbooking? both reasons were suggested to be true by the man and a lady that appeared from the reception area. Having read some reviews and speaking to other guests it became apparent that this problem is a regular occurrence. We went to Creta Paradise hotel up the road and what a different welcoming! The receptionist greeted us with a smile and checked us in. I spoke of Santa Marina Hotel, and it was apparent that we were not the first people to have this issue with that hotel. In short I did not return to Santa Marina, the vibe there was dull with no atmosphere and I did not want to spoil a whole week because of their poor attitude towards their guests. I have written to Tui regarding this hotel and await their reply. So, all in all, I would not recommend Santa Marina Hotel. I had read some positive reviews prior to booking this hotel but sadly I cannot add a positive review."
