Where Athens shines and history breathes

Checking into The Dolli feels a little like being granted backstage access to Athens itself. Set in the heart of Plaka, this Hôtel Maison gazes directly at the Acropolis, yet carries its grandeur with an easy, contemporary confidence. Step inside and the city’s sunny energy softens into bouclé curves, sculptural treasures, and a quiet hum of refinement.

Days drift deliciously between rooftop swims that mirror the Parthenon, languid breakfasts layered with Cretan honey, and evenings where the skyline glows in apricot hues above your glass. Art hides in around every corner – from Picasso to Cocteau – while the building’s century-old soul lingers beneath fresh, meticulous design. It feels both lovingly storied and delightfully now. A place where you slow down, look up, and let Athens work its ancient magic on you.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

Hotel highlights

The Dolli sits in Plaka, that irresistible tangle of tiny lanes, neoclassical façades, and sun-washed terraces where Athens feels most alive. Step outside and you’re seconds from flea markets, Byzantine churches, and the photogenic maze of Anafiotika, where cats nap like local royalty on whitewashed steps. The Acropolis looms close enough to study its marbled moods – morning gold, dusk rose, midnight myth. Even the rooftop becomes a stolen moment: sip a cocktail and play “spot the landmark” as the Roman Agora and National Observatory glow below. Shopping fiends can wander to Ermou Street, while culture-lovers can reach the Acropolis Museum in a breezy 15-minute stroll. It’s Athens at your doorstep, with the keys handed over.

Before it became Athens’ most admired modern darling, The Dolli lived many lives. In the 1920s, shipping magnate Dimitrios Kallimasiotis commissioned architect Andreas Kriezis to craft his eclectic mansion. Marble arches, lofty windows, and a swirl of neoclassical notes became its signature. By the mid-1930s, the building reinvented itself as a beloved fabric emporium, weaving another chapter into its tapestry. A century on, Grecotel spent seven painstaking years restoring the listed structure, reviving treasures like the Sun of Vergina painted in its ceilings. The result? A rare jewel where heritage is not preserved behind glass, it’s the heartbeat of every room.
The rooftop restaurant here is pure theatre – each plate steps forward like a soloist, while the skyline hums behind it like a softly approving Greek chorus. Try the salmon roll crowned with caviar, or the shrimp tempura with miso-mayo and just enough chili to keep things interesting. Breakfast is a gentle ambush of temptation: warm spanakopita, berry cheesecakes, Cretan thyme honey, Champagne on standby, and à la carte favourites like strapatsada or salmon-and-truffle eggs Benedict. Downstairs, Le Salon serves canapés and indulgent pastries, while Le Bar Secret hides behind wood panels and rare books – a moody cocoon perfect for a late-night chocolate infusion or something strong and amber.

The Dolli turns Athens into your personal choose-your-own-adventure. Start on the rooftop with the hotel’s own “short & sweet” Acropolis tour, opening with a panorama that feels like a cinematic establishing shot. Or go deep with the full Acropolis and museum experience, tracing the city’s ancient heartbeat with an expert at your side. Night owls can opt for the exclusive NYX tour, exploring the Acropolis Museum after hours under the goddess of night’s watchful gaze. Art lovers are spoiled rotten: ask the team for a Collector’s Tour, a Bespoke Art Experience, or even a Hydra art day trip – Jeff Koons, George Condo, and the island’s creative hideaways await.

The hotel’s mythology-themed children’s scavenger hunt – tiny explorers, big bragging rights.

Spotting the Sun of Vergina motifs hidden in ceilings like an ancient Easter egg hunt for grown-ups

The sea bass and green apple canapé during afternoon tea – unexpected, fresh, oddly addictive.
