"The hotel is located in a good location however the hotel itself has not been up kept nor renovated for many, many years. Don't believe the pictures of the hotel premises/rooms on their website, they are inaccurate/photoshopped ! When we arrived at the hotel Dimitrious at the reception told us that my 3 booked rooms were cleaned and ready for us and that they would all be next to each other as I have previously requested ( I traveled with 5 kids hence needing all 3 rooms next to each other). We were given 3 rooms (1 Superior and 2 Executive rooms on the 3rd floor).Upon arriving on the 3rd floor, we right away smelled foul odor (mold/mildew) from the hallway carpets and noticed black scuff marks on the walls ( no one has re-painted or even up kept those walls in many years). The walls in the hallways/rooms have black skuff marks, furniture in the rooms is ancient looking ( 1950's), furniture is chipped/scratched throughout and stained. In one of the Executive rooms, the white bedding which seemed to be freshly made had multiple black stains and the old gray velvet headboard had unknown brown stains on it which was absolutely disgusting! Very old floor carpets throughout which smell like mold/sewer ( the smell in the rooms was pungent the moment you open the door and unbearable; one of the Executive rooms smelled like sewer). The mattresses are old, sunken and not suitable for a good night sleep. Grout is chipped/missing in the room bathrooms ( some grout had visible black mold spots), old marble tiles on bathroom floor have visible large cracks, no body wash provided ( just tiny/sample sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner), black hairs inside the bathtub which is sickening and water stays barely luke warm when showering. When I booked the NJV hote/ rooms, the pictures and the descriptions on the site were not what the rooms look like in real life! I was so disgusted that I asked the bell boy to bring our luggage back downstairs as I would not sleep in those rooms. Bell boy was very helpful, tried calling the reception to see if we can have different rooms but Dimitrious from the reception told him that "they were all booked out". I tried to reason with him explaining that the rooms that were given to us are below Motel grade level and that my children will not sleep in a room which smells like mold. Dimitrious was not helpful at all so I had to get a manager involved who came upstairs to the 3rd floor, looked inside each room, walked around, smelled them and said "You are right, I'm so sorry!". I even showed her their website pictures of the hotel as well as different room categories explaining to her how what you see on the site is not what the hotel looks like in real life). She persisted to say that they don't have anymore available rooms for us and that in best case scenario they would have to give us 3 rooms on 3 different floors, hence split us up. I explained that I have 5 kids and cannot be multiple floors away from them. She told us to go walk around Athens while they'll try to figure something out. No phone call, no message apologizing nor letting us know that the new rooms were prepped and ready. We came back to the hotel at almost 8 oclock and the rooms still were not ready for us; we had to sit in the lobby for almost 30 more minutes. We were so tired and frustrated/dissapointed with the hotel staff. Eventually she gave us 1 Superior Room on the 1rst floor and 2 Executive Rooms on the 7th ( which looked exactly like the ones on the 3rd floor but didnt smell as bad). This is not what I booked nor what I expected. She offered us complimentary breakfast ( which they typically charge 32 Euros per person) next day for all of our troubles. I do not recommend NJV Plaza Athens Hotel to anyone visiting Athens. The hotel is very overpriced, old and is a dire need of a complete gut/renovation."
