"We’ve stayed at the King George hotel in the past and had a wonderful time. The past stay was even better.
As others have noted, the location of the hotel can’t be beat for tourists. It’s right on Syntagma Square, next to Parliament. It’s a 2 minute walk to Ermou Street, one of Athens’ prime shopping district and walking distance to a lot of great neighborhoods of Athens – the Plaka, Monastiraki and Kolonaki. It’s easy to get cabs right out in front if you don’t feel like walking and the metro is literally across the street from the hotel.
The hotel is a sister property to the much larger Grande Bretagne that is next door. Having stayed at both, I really prefer the smaller feel of the King George – it’s just more intimate and understated. The décor is all classic luxury – muted tones, marble, soft lighting, etc. Our King room was very large for Athens standards, with a king sized bed, full desk, sofa, side chair and two walk-out balconies with views of the Parthenon. It has all the modern touches you would want – USB charging ports, convenient panels for lighting / room controls, coffee maker, fridge, etc. The hotel has made some really nice upgrades to the hotel bathrooms – many of the old tubs have been replaced with massive walk-in showers. They are all updated, but maintain that timeless classic, white marble bathroom elegance.
Food at the hotel, is just superb. Breakfast is served in the Michelin starred Tudor Hall. The restaurant has a very elegant dining room and patio with wonderful views of the Parthenon. Breakfast is just wonderful with a lot of fresh and made to order items. We’ve eaten at Tudor Hall on each of our past trips to Athens, and it continues to impress. This past trip, we ate a handful of other Michelin star restaurants in Athens, and Tudor Hall was simply the best meal of the trip. The service is seamless and unobtrusive, food is plated like artwork and the taste is just sublime.
There is a full gym with weights and machines, a sauna / steam and business center. The only thing lacking is a pool, so guests have to go the Grand Bretagne. We were there in early April so wasn’t that hot, but I could imagine wanted better access in the summer months. Still we didn’t really mind, it’s just worth noting.
Service continues to be very impressive at the hotel. They arranged private tours for us, transfers, made reservations, gave suggestions on what to do. Everyone we interacted with was very friendly.
This continues to be one of my favorite Bonvoy hotels in the world, and we’ll absolutely go back."
