"After accommodating family members at Sofitel Munich Bayerpost last October, who did not spend a very smooth, but decent stay there, we decided to have a closer look for ourselves as paying guests before considering accommodating more guests at this property located close to our actual home only a five minutes underground ride away.
The hotel does have strengths, such as its convenient location, impressive building design, a marvellous pool, a decent breakfast and very generous welcome drinks for status guests.
Still, our stay did not convince us at all. As announced, we arrived at 12 pm, and the room had not been prepared yet, which is in line with hotel policies and therefore fine. The receptionist announced the room should be ready by 1 pm and noted our phone number to inform us, as soon as everything was prepared. Unfortunately, no call arrived, so we returned for the official check-in time - 3pm. Waiting lines at the reception were of overwhelming dimensions, nothing had been prepared at all and the room was still not ready.
Despite status and special booking, a suite upgrade was refused, first we were told the hotel was fully booked, then we were offered a 400 EUR suite upgrade at 100 Euros as a special discount. That is a possible way of treating status guests, but not exactly the way you would wish for.
Another room was picked, with a bath tub as the receptionist assured us. The team refused to hand out our stored luggage, which should arrive up in the room shortly. Up in the room, no bath tub was to be found. So we had to return to the front desk, where, after discussing with the front office manager, a room with a bath tub was assigned and, as a proactive gesture of apology, a bottle of champagne was sent up to our room. That was nice and we felt a little better. Still, the luggage was not handed out, it was promised to arrive immediately. Unfortunately, we had to wait for 30 minutes, a waste of time considering we had preferred picking it up by ourselves. The room's condition was mediocre at best, especially the widely molded shower was hardly pleasant. Only later, we noticed that the telephone and the hair dryer were unusable. Even though we do not expect world-class at a Sofitel, incidents like these are unacceptable.
One more source of trouble: After explicitly asking for our f&b credit rate, we were told it would be around 86 Euros, only to learn that not more than 80 Euros were deducted from our bill at first, which was corrected after complaint, just as the tray charge of 5 Euros, which had not been noted anywhere on the room service menu. Again, it was not the amounts of money in question, but the lacks of honesty and transparency, which were truly annoying.
Our 3.30 pm late check-out was confirmed four times, and we put out the do not disturb sign only to learn after our return that someone had been in our room anyway. Our belongings were still present, but the bed linen had already been removed, towels and slippers gone. We had to re-organize to be able to use the spa, absolutely unnecessary and infuriating.
Additionally, we were served unchilled drinks by room service, used coffee capsules were used as coffee refill, and body lotion remained without refill after three requests.
Pham, who checked us out, was very friendly and had already made a positive impression during our family visit in fall 2025, he deserves special praise and mention.
But still, our entire experience is worth no more than two TripAdvisor points. Also, we clearly cannot recommend Sofitel Munich Bayerpost."
