DAS CARLS Hotel

"We stayed here as part of a family trip, booking five rooms for 9 people, for six nights. The location is ideal for it's accessibility to the Altstadt, Carlsplatz Market, Königsalle as well as various options for transportation around the area. But the challenge with this location is staying during the weekends, it can get loud and noisy and not just at night after the bars let out, but also in the early mornings with street sweepers and delivery trucks coming through to get ready for the market to open. The breakfast offerings each day were fabulous! Everyone in my group raved about the variety offered, the fresh squeezed orange juice, and the great coffee. The bar is nice for a quick beer or a simple drink, but it is only attended by the front desk staff who may or may not know how to prepare drinks depending upon who is working at the time. Better to go out to one of the many bars closeby. The rooms are nicely done, comfortable and spacious enough, our only real challenge was staying here during the first heat wave of this summer (May 2026) They were still in the process of updating the hotel with AC but had not yet completed the project before our stay, so it was almost unbearable the last few nights, only to have fans placed in three of our five rooms (one didn't work) the night before we checked out. The front desk staff is hit or miss as well, not the friendliest or the most helpful, but there was one gentleman who was a dream to work with I believe his name was José. He was incredibly helpful and cheerful and always eager to offer suggestions for sights to see or events to attend. We all loved him!"

"Very Disappointing Front Desk Experience Unfortunately, my stay was significantly affected by the extremely unprofessional behavior of a female receptionist (I believe her name is Wasa. Although I asked her name, she did not want to share openly!) at the front desk. From the very first interaction, she was rude, dismissive, and spoke in a blaming manner, as if the problems I experienced were somehow my fault as a guest. Instead of trying to help or show any level of hospitality, she made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Her attitude was far from customer-oriented and completely inconsistent with what one would expect from a hotel reception staff member, especially in a country known for professionalism. A hotel stay should make guests feel at ease, not stressed or accused. This experience left a very negative impression and seriously impacted my overall opinion of the hotel. I sincerely hope the management addresses this issue, as such behavior is unacceptable in the hospitality industry."

"I was a little dubious of the hotel after seeing the reviews on Trip Advisor but we could not have been more pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by a very lovely lobby and friendly staff who checked us in. We then went to our room (Comfort Double) and it was great. Clean and comfy and much more modern than some of the photos on here show. The bathroom was a little dated but it was completely fine with a powerful shower and a few amenities. The location as many other reviews have said is the real standout, you’re essentially right in the middle of the old town and pretty much walking distance from everywhere you may want to visit. Overall I’d highly recommend the hotel for a lovely stay in Düsseldorf."
