Amano Grand Central

"The main advantage of Hotel AMANO Grand Central is its convenient location opposite Berlin’s central railway station. The hotel also looks stylish and modern. Unfortunately, that was not enough to make our stay enjoyable. The disappointing experience started at check-in. Despite having already completed the online check-in, we had to go through the entire procedure again at a self-service terminal. There was hardly any personal welcome or sense of hospitality. It felt more like checking into an Airbnb than arriving at a hotel. We had booked a room for three adults, but the third bed was essentially a folding camp bed with a mattress consisting of two separate pieces, leaving an uncomfortable gap in the middle. When we complained, we were offered another room, only to discover that it had exactly the same bed. The staff seemed irritated by our complaint, and no satisfactory solution was provided. The room itself was not particularly impressive either. The bathroom design offered very little privacy. The open shower area and the positioning of the mirrors meant that someone taking a shower could be seen by the other guests in the room. An extremely uncomfortable arrangement when sharing a room with relatives or friends. Basic amenities were another recurring frustration. There were insufficient coffee cups, coffee creamer and towels for three people. We repeatedly had to ask for things that should have been provided automatically. Even the small towels were impractical. What bothered us most was the overall lack of hospitality. Instead of feeling welcome and looked after, we felt that guests were expected to do almost everything themselves. When assistance was needed, the response was often unhelpful or unfriendly. The hotel seems to focus on a modern, minimalist concept, but in practice this comes at the expense of comfort, privacy and personal service. A hotel should offer more than just a convenient location and a place to sleep. Unfortunately, our experience felt more like staying in a self-service apartment than in a hotel. We would not stay here again."

"Excellent value for money. Mum and son trip to Berlin. This hotel was almost perfect. Centrally located opposite the main train station made exploring Berlin a breeze. Rooms were clean and sensibly sized. The water was really hot with really good pressure. Staff were really helpful. We rented bikes from the hotel so collect and drop off was 24hr and hassle free. The coffee was great and only €2! What could be better- it was a little noisy at night - cars and trains, but that was offset by convenience. And my own pet hate is no conditioner in showers! And only 3 face cleaning pads…….either supply enough for a stay or don’t leave any! Would definitely go back and throughly recommend."
