Hotel Kabanel by Happyculture

"The Kabenel was a perfect fit for us, not a frills-filled spa treatment by any means, but a great location with a clean room and space to get some work done with good wi-fi. The bathroom was quite large relative to the many 3-star places I've stayed in Paris, as well as very clean. We had a courtyard view that made for very quiet stay and was a 10-minute walk to catch a direct train to CDG as well as arriving on the Eurostar. We had meals close by, and both places for dinner were first rate."

"We recently stayed at Kabanel Hotel in Paris, and I can definitely say: skip it. The reservation was not under my name. To start on a good notice, the hotel is nearby Gare de l'Est. It's like a 5 min walk. First of all, when you arrive, the lobby has a hideous smell that you cannot un-smell or escape from. There is a coffee station with water and hot drinks, which was nice. The hotel has two buildings separated by a sort of courtyard. We arrived around 2 AM and had three pieces of luggage. The guy gave us a room in the second building, WHICH HAS NO ELEVATOR. I was obliged to carry my heavy bag three floors up, and you know how the stairs in Paris buildings are. Same thing at checkout—I had to bring all the bags back down. The room was also not as clean as it could have been. The sheets were dirty and stained. On of the bed side tables were broken, it was leaning on the wall and bed not to fall 😂. Everything in the hotel was "eco-friendly," but you can't go eco while demolishing every aspect of the room. The AC wasn't even cooling; its performance was basically nonexistent. Again, "eco-friendly." The bathroom was also a bit disgusting to shower in. The toilet is too close to the wall, so you can't sit on it straight—you have to sit on the side for your legs to fit. The shower was not pleasant as well, it had a white curtain to close, but the whole thing made shower disgusting, we wore slippers inside showering just to make it better. One of the windows also didn't close properly, and we had to do a whole scenario just to close it after opening it. The guy at reception wasn't very friendly either. We asked if we could keep two pieces of cheese in the fridge until we came back because the room doesn't have a fridge, and he just said no 😂. Like, okay sir. The young guy from the night shift was much better and nicer. I don't know. I tried it once and had a disappointing experience, and I don't think I'm going to come back to this hotel on my next visit to Paris. I do not recommend it. It was unpleasant—hot weather, tiring, dirty—and I shouldn't be feeling that way on vacation."
